We do in all the Syrian Orthodox Christian Churches. We have a large number of churches in India esp. Kerala. We believe the altar is the place where God comes down to during the Holy Qurbana. Jesus himself said that wherever two or three people gather in my name I will be in their midst. And you do not defile the holy place with shoes or uncovered heads.

Because it isn't on fire? hehehe Ok just kidding.. The church building isn't anything special. The church is the people the saved children of God. The church is the Bride of Christ. When I talk to Mormons and they ask if I believe in eternal marriage I answer saying "oh yes, I'm the bride" I am a 55 year old man 6'5" tall 250lbs I make one beautiful bride... :) Jim

the holy bush incident is not something christians celebrate by any specific rituals. you must also consider that in the west, taking your clothes off was frowned on, and that the weather is noticably cooler than in the india or arabia... taking your shoes off, when most churches have no heating, is not a fantastically good idea.

In some foreign countries, Catholic churches have you remove your shoes before entering it. There is a Catholic church in West Virginia and Illinois that does this. And one in Mexico. I guess most don't because of American culture. Over the years, culture weighs more than religion to many. Not sure though, I'll ask my priest this weekend.

God bless you!

There is no where in scripture where it says that we must remove our footwear to enter the church. God commanded Moses to remove his footwear to show his respect to God.
To be in worship doesn't depend on what I have or don't have on my feet. It is the attitude in which I approach Him. That is what God was trying to get across to Moses.

Moses was approaching God himself. God commanded him to remove his footwear.

Fire Marshalls don't allow burning bushes in church. Talking bushes are permitted in insane assylms.
