I love Turkey. Ephesus was fabulous. It is my favorite of all the ancient ruins I have seen. And, Istanbul--------I need to go back to spend another week to see everything----I did not have enough time in the Grand Bazaar.
Sailing into Istanbul was a spiritual highlight for me--for whatever reason. It was the most beautiful sight, seeing The Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia miles off, in the skyline. I will never forget it. If you can, sail into the city.
The Blue Mosque was my highlight of being in the city. I could have spend hours there.
And, the people were, without a doubt, the nicest people I have found.

I first visited Turkey in 1973 and have been living in Turkey since 1993.
There is so much that is good that it's difficult to think of one highlight. In addition to the fantastic historic sites (I particularly like Bogazkale, Nemrut Dag, Bodrum Castle, Kekova - Kale Koy), there is magnificent natural scenery on a truly grand scale - seeing a rainbow over Mount Ararat was pretty special. However, for me the absolute highlight would probably be living on a gulet (traditional wooden boat), swimming in the crystal clear turquoise water several times a day, eating the freshest food, visiting places that are really off the beaten track, and being paid for it! For seven weeks!!

The first year I went to Turkey 1988 I stayed in Kalkan and Marmaris. There was a rat in the sink of the bathroom, we had the trots for 10 days, and I never saw my suitcase agin after checking in to come home. We tried Bodrum 2yrs later and had one of our best holidays ever. Been to Turkey 9 times now.
Highlight is going to find new places on our own using the local transport eg Gumusluk

We have been to turkey several times and are going back to altinkum next year for 8 weeks.I cant tell you the highlight of my stay because every second was like being in heaven.I would live there tomorrow.The people are really friendly and will go out of their way to help.They are great with children.

We went to a great little resort called Ockakoy, with Tapestry holidays. now sadly out of business, but you can still get there independently. It is just outside Olu Deniz where you can go parascending of Mount Babadag with an experienced pilot. It is the second highest point in the world to do this type of thing and they drop you right on the beach outside the office you set off from. Definitely worth doing, costs about £50 quid but money well spent.

The highlight of my travels through Turkey, hm, it's hard to pick one. If you search my answer, I just recently waxed poetic about Turkey...
But I will pick a highlight - Off season, few tourists, in the interior, in a converted monestary now hotel, snow crunching under my feet as the sun breaks, pushing through the gates to check in. Guzelyurt, near Ihlara in December - it was majestic. There was a bit of snow on the ground, and on Mount Hasan (?).
The guide led myself, a friend, and a couple of Belgians on an intimate tour of the area, in French (no English, alas, and my Turkish was limited to numbers and 'iskender lutfen!'). We went through these amazing valleys, watched kids play football in the snow, saw the centuries old churches near Ihlara, and Ihlara itself, amazing.
I loved it so much I'm going back there to live. Permanently.

I stayed in Bodrum with my partner in a five star hotel which was reasonable to book but when we got there the hotel were really stingy and wouldnt even let us bring our own bottles of water in, and we felt we should of stayed in self catering. The castle was really fascinating and the weather and sea was lovely. People seemed nice. Ive heard there are much nicer places then Bodrum but it did us well for a nice holiday all in all.xx

Yes I've just come back from Gumbet and had a brilliant time. I think the hightlight was the boat trip which lasted all day and stopped at different beaches and to top it all the weather was scorching. Also the shopping everything is so cheap and the people are so friendly.

I have been many times. And I agree with catherine people are amazing.And I had no idea the beaches were that beautiful in turkey. The best in Europe hands down.

Highlight was eating the wonderful food and talking with the family I visited. Also: the beach at Kusadasi, Istanbul (including Ayasofya, blue mosque, Topkapi palace), Ephesus, and Ataturk mausoleum/museum. Basically it was all good.
