I have no clue what everyone else said as I didn't take time to read the same thing people always say that is no where near right. First off its an adiction and no one can say its not the same as a physical addiction. I was physically addicted to weed for 10 long years. I smoked an ounce a week every week for 9 of those years. When I finally had kids I stopped and it was the worst month of my life. I couldn't sleep, or eat and even sex got a whole lot more boring. i had never in my life not even once had sober sex until the day i stopped and it was not nearly as fun.
Now, I quit 3 years ago and I still want to get high, I don't but I still want to and I think about it at least once a week. We are the same as drunks in a lot of ways except the only thing wrongwith reefer is its illegal. anyhow, start by slowwing down. I went down to a hlaf for a few weeks, the a quarter for a few weeks, the an 1/8 for a few weeks and finally I got down to smoking once in the morning to get my day going and once at night to get to sleep. once I got over the hump of not smoking in the morning the day time was much easier, until I stopped the final nightly stone. then life was hell for a whole month. I hurt all over, I puked for a week or so occasionally and I hated the world.
try quitting in small steps and don't take advice from people who have never had this addiction. they're just guessing.

RE:
Help I'm addicted to cannabis?
I'm 30 and have been smoking it almost everyday since being about 18. I would like some help on how to give it up. I'm not lazy, unemployed or paranoid but I want to be able to give it up or, ideally, smoke it from time to time where as at the moment I want a joint as soon as I get home...

Did you know that it's the nicotine you're addicted to?

I've been smoking since I was 13 and am now 42. I've gone for long periods of time of not smoking, for variious reasons, and it is a mental addiction, not a physical one. By the way, marijuana does not have nicotine, as one answer states. It's not easy, but I found that by reducing access, it's easier. If I don't have it, I can't smoke it. and once the first day or 2 is over, those cravings go away, since they are not physical but mental. Good Luck! It's not always easy.

If its ruling your life to that extent you need some help, join a drug program.
If you are smoking it with tobacco, just cut out the cannabis gradually as a start. The craving is probably for the nicotine in the tobacco as someone else suggested. Cannabis is not addictive in the usual sense, but you can get a psychological dependance on it. Break the cycle, you obviously want to otherwise you wouldnt have asked the question!

Surprisingly, it's not that difficult to quit. You won't have any physical withdrawal symptoms, it's just a matter of getting out of the habit. After a short time, you'll feel so much better that you won't want to go back to it. Join an M.A. (Marijuana Anonymous) group if you need support, or go online to join an online support group. Try having a glass of wine at night or a beer instead.
Good Luck!

I was a regular hash smoker for 25 years and relate to what you're saying. It's actually the nicotine you're addicted to (although joints are nicer than cigs), so to give up the hash you need to stop smoking too. You will never just be able to smoke from time to time, you need to stop completely. It can be done as I did it 5 months ago and I've never looked back. So you need to make the committment to quit everything or carry on the way you've been doing.

I know it's hard but it's not as bad as you think. I just needed something to give me some motivation. Well, I went for a drug test for this job that I really wanted. I had gone to school for my CNA certificate there and had grown to love the residents...And I failed my test(I had quit for a while knowing that this was coming up)! I was so mad at myself because I knew that I wasn't gonna be able to see the residents anymore. Then the company told me that if I can stay clean and pass a drug test in six months that I could work there...Now it's been six months and I haven't smoked weed once! I feel good now! At first that's all you can think about, but after a while it goes away. And it wasn't as bad as I thought being around my boyfriend(who smokes everyday, all day!). Well I hope you can find something to motivate you. And Good Luck!

One approach is to make it a game...go 1 day without it, then see how many days you can go without it. If you just gotta, take a toke or two to cut the edge, then start over, making it your goal to go farther this time. Another way is to just not use it anymore. you'll have a little trouble trying to go to sleep for a night or two, but this will pass. Good luck, in any case.
