i want to see my two best mates in new york before christmas! i'm a teacher and i can't leave untill the 19th of december (evening). i want to come back the 23rd. is there any way around the £500 price tag and huge jacking up of price when school finishes?can i take a boat? or a spaceship? i'll try anything!

From your currency tag, I assume you want to go from London. The cheapest flights I found were around $1,043 (and I don't think the boat is much cheaper). Plus it still takes five days across the pond, which is more time than you expect to spend.

The timing is your problem. You can get cross-Atlantic much cheaper outside Holiday season. So I'd plan to go see my friends another time.

Contact Cunard to see if one of the Queens is doing an Atlantic crossing around that time. You can see if they still offer standby ticketing. Several years ago I wanted to be in London for Christmas and all the airlines said they were sold out or had very high prices. I went to the airport in Newark New Jersey and signed up for standby on Delta, Continental and Virgin. About two hours before flight time, Virgin had space available and I flew to the UK for $175.

well what ever you do try to get your ticket in advance and its aways cheaper that way
