well it depends on who you are
for one thing they are both point sparring
but the so called point sparring is usually only 3 or 5 points
to where the olympic sparring goes for a few rounds of a minute or two each and the winner has the most points after all of the rounds so some kids I noticed are better at the point sparring because when they do round sparring they tend to get tired
honestly its more exciting to watch the olympic style because it last longer but then again you have to have strong technique to win at point so.... the answer is depends on what you like

better? they are similar and different. As far as speed goes, I think point sparring wins. Olympic sparring is fine.... but I always laugh when they hold their hands down... I practice TKD and last week got the chance to sparr full contact with a silver medal winner. After I punched him in the face 4 or five times.. he started to realize "game" fighting and "real" fighting are two different things.... he didn't talk so much trash after that... what was even more funny was when I brought my hapkido background into the ring... throwing someone who doesn't know what they are doing is FUUUUUNNY!

I have not trained in an art like TKD, only Judo and Wrestling so competitions are always full contact.
I personally think that they should incorperate more free fighting for TKD and other styles like it. Point or Olympic fighting is good for showing technique, but I think it is a little like saying Fencing is sword fighting.
Oh and Spider I thought that arts weren't for competition and not to be used for real life...
13+years Judo and 5 years Grecco/Freestyle Wrestling. with competition experience in both

i think either is fine, BUT i do think that martial artist who point or olympic style spar, really need to keep their form of sparring in perspective.
so many don't realize that if you train to tip tap, when it comes down to really using what you know to defend yourself that that form of repeditive motion can really hinder your ability to strike with true intent, your muscle memory gets so used to the acceleration and quick decceleration fo the motion the full impact of your strikes is not fully felt by your attacker/opponent...
it's like on the 1st season of final fu, on mtv, an olympic tkdist was so distraught about being out scored, which in her mind was impossible because she was an olympian(she knew she was better than her competition), (however she lost two rounds miserably) she quit the show.
if it's full contact, it should be FULL contact!!!
sorry, that was just me voicing a very popular opinion on point sparring..

I muself like full contact point sparring mostly because that is what i practice with my association. But also because it shows your skill more than just being able to knock someone out like in ufc.

I don't really like either.
They look more like a game of tag than a real situation.
