I don't eat them either (especially the slabs of cinnamon), but sometimes there are so many of them I wonder.

i wouldnt eat em the cloves wont taste very nice i hate whole spices in my cooking although sometimes its the best way to get the flavour

I don't eat them either. You could eat them if you want, but all of their flavor has become infused into the rice so they're not that flavorful on their own. Plus, they are sort of like eating twigs (woody) and not that appetizing.

You're not really suppossed to eat them. I've accidentally chewed on them and the flavour is too intense but it won't harm you. I wish they wouldn't put them in to be honest. I can live without 'fragrant' rice.

cloves and cardamon are used discreetly --i.e. in a pochette...kind of "cloth package" while you cook rice, yes they add flavor and you do not have to see and eat the pochette..since it is taken out before your rice reaches your place. etiquette my dear, etiquette. the key to savoir vivre. voila.

there just there for flavour if you do eat them and lest face it they taste file they wont harm you just make you feel a bit sick so spit them out and leave them on side of plate

No, but no worries about it if you did eat one gives you a sudden rush of flavor.

I hate them they taste really fragrant euggggg. Dont think they would do any harm though

yes you can eat them safely. i used to work in a wholefood shop and regularly ate cardomons for fresh breath. go on enjoy them.
