wouldn't tuning up to the D break the string?

I am trying to play "pink moon" and the tablature i've seen says
B string -> D
high E -> F#
I'm worried about breaking my strings by tuning up

Tuning up to D would be only a minor 3rd (3 half steps), unless they were new strings - still it would make the string so tight it might break.
What tuning are you trying to use?
If you are going for an open D tuning, why not tune it down a whole step to A.

Tune up...it's only three frets difference. The B has the least tension on it to begin with with standard string-size and tuning, so you shouldn't have any trouble doing this. Just be sure and give it a little time, then check the tuning again. The string is going to stretch a little to begin with, even if it's old. Note: This is better done with a new set of strings.

Slowly tune your strings upward--they have less to go to the pitch you need. The E to an F# can be tricky, particularly if the string is old.

Having the B string lowered would cause wobble and pitch distortion, though some rockers might find it to be pleasing.

Yeah, you desire thicker gauge strings. finding on your guitar, you would be able to additionally desire a sparkling nut (it is the subject between the neck and the top that has little slots for the strings) with the aid of fact the hot strings would possibly no longer in good shape. i do no longer understand the proper numbers, however the string it is principally the low E could be a minimum of 60, perhaps as much as 70. yet easily, you would be able to would desire to alter them lower back in case you intend on going lower back to popular. no person set of strings covers each available notice on the guitar completely.

no, tune up carfully, it's only 3 notes, going down would mean 9 notes, and the string would get all plonky [a word?] rather than twangy
