in muay Thai the most popular elbow strikes tend to be to the head. your elbow is a sharp boney part of your body, any time you strike with it you're going to cause damage.

most trainers have you aim for the face. most popular strikes are

temple strikes - very serious and dangerous, if done correctly you can easily knock a person out

chin/jaw strikes - strike someone here correctly and they're jaw jerks to the side temporarily cutting of the blood flow to the brain, resulting in a knock out.. this spot is otherwise known as the button or sweet spot, when you connect perfectly, the smallest force can easily result in a knock out (thinks body science not strength baby.. )

as the boys said above, the eye socket area is another popular spot.. there is less flesh and fatty tissue around the eyes, it's basically skin on bone, so it cuts more easily when struck, which in a match can result in referee stoppage.

the ridge of the nose - a great place to strike, although it is easier to catch with a forearm strike than a typical elbow (forearm strike meaning you strike with the forearm instead of the tip of the elbow) this is another area where the flesh is thin and easy to cut.

as for body strikes with an elbow most muay Thai trainers wouldn't recommend, because to strike to the body you have to dip low and for a muay Thai fighter that leaves you ripe for a knee to the head..

so i say, if you're thinking elbows and fighting primarily stand up, stick with head hunting and making sure that you have a nice sweeping, powerful arched elbow when you throw it..

as for elbows on the ground (mount or guard) that's a longer story..

hope this helps!

What they said with the eye brow and also the chin. I like the temple and bridge of nose myself because they are fast acting spots. when hit on the bridge of the nose the eyes water and they cant see to fight back. If you are in real danger try the V at the back of the neck if you can and they will get temporary paralysis or in other words they cant control their own body movements.

Every one knows that the best place to elbow is the eye ridge, it's a ridge and will cut the skin or the forehead is full of blood, cut it and you will have a great advantage

As above say, eye brows ridge. Also cheek bone, undereath the jaw/chin, and collar bone. If you're fast and very good, floating rib but it's risky.
