I've checked several map websites (MapQuest, Yahoo, Google) and have gotten different routes. I'm wondering what is the better route to take in November. In case of bad weather, which route is preferable? Is one route more scenic (to see the fall leaves and mountains) than the other? Does one route have less tolls?

Thanks.

you can get directions on line at Map quest, some sites even plan your route to the weather conditions. The major Driving, is I-81 toward Binghampton and the NYS Thruway West heading towards Rochester and Buffalo. I-290 W and I-190 N toward Niagara Falls. This is the Route I use but you can just go straight up from I-81 into Ontario. Then take 401-W.

I have taken this route for 2 years in a row. Go to your AAA store and if you are a member the maps are free. Ask for New York and Ontario maps. Most Americans think that the only way from New York city to Toronto by car, is through Niagara Falls. There is another route that will cut your travel time by 2 and half hours less!! It is a much easier route. Get to 81N freeway and go straight all the way into Ontario, Canada. It is sooo easy. When you get to the boarder into Canada take hwy 401West straight into Toronto. That's it!! Sooo much easier. Takes less time. Cost less on gas. Just ask AAA how to get to Hwy 81N and just drive straight up into Canada.
It takes around 8 and half hours non stop by car. From Manhattan right into Toronto. Nice drive too!!

Welcome and Enjoy our city of Toronto!!

NYC-Albany-Syracuse-Watertown, then cross over the Thousand Islands Bridge. Go via Niagara Falls only if you have six hours to waste while sitting in line and waiting for customs clearance.
