Very harmful. Keep this in mind: Hot air rises, cool air sinks. Now with that phrase in mind: any excess gas from factories or other unnatural plants cannot escape our atmosphere because the hot air rises and SHOULD escape our atmosphere. Unfortunately as the polluted air rises, it also cools. since cool air sinks, it goes back to our breathing atmosphere and stays with us (like a cycle).

since it stays in our atmosphere, it makes the ozone layer a little weak causing a hole that protects the earth from the sun's harmful rays. the sun penetrates through our protective ozone layer and makes us warmer, causing the ice caps to melt a little more (which causes more water/ocean/bodies of water, etc-- Think "Waterworld"), affects seasonal weather (extreme weather changes), hurricanes (Think Katrina, and Rita), among so many other things.

So yes, the greenhouse effect is very harmful.

It is beneficial and harmful and I'll explain why. The atmosphere traps in warmth so that our earth does not basically completely freeze. That is the greenhouse effect and is good because without this we would all die. However, we are making the greenhouse effect trap more heat because of all the emissions of greenhouse gases and deforestation. This is causing problems, particularly in the north. So it is really our impact and how it changes the greenhouse effect that is harmful, but the greenhouse effect without any input from us is good.

Greenhouse Effect will make the Earth warmer and warmer each year, and eventually the glaciers (in north poles and south poles mainly) will be melted, and then the sea level will rise.... Simply as a single sentence: The Greenhouse Effect is harmful.

Green house effect is nothing but increase in the concentration of Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of our Earth. Due to this natural balance will be totally disturbed and can cause many calamities. As a result of which there may be destruction of the whole Earth.
