Decide if you want a big or small dog. Or if you cant do that look at where you live is your house big or small or if you have an apartment make sure you have the time to exercise the big dog take them outside ect.
Another thing German Shepard's and chihuahuas have very different personalities. I would choose a German Shepard but that's just b/c I find Chihuahuas to be annoying they are to hyper or they shake all the time like there nervous.

What activities are you looking to do with your dog? I think this will help you to arrive at the right answer for you.

German Shepards are not good lap dogs and Chihauhuas are not good running partners. Both are good at agility, but some shepards have structural problems that can be advanced by doing something like agility. If you like to deck your dog out in Bling, be kind and stick to the Chihuahua.

It all depends on where u live,a German Shepard needs more exercise than a chihuahua,so if u have yard space i would suggest a Shepard, they r also very loyal n good with kids.

Just a personal note on the chiauaua...they are amazing little things IF you can spend tons of time with them. If you plan on leaving it alone alot, it will be a yapper and possibly a biter. Not that the bites would be THAT bad coming from something the size of a shoe, but still. Germans are amazing watch dogs and very loyal. If size isnt an issue, Id take a German Shepard

chihuahua have been heavily bred the past few years and usually when certain breeds get bred heavily the develop a temper..so the shepard may be a better temperament around children and such..plus when shepard are puppie they're real clumsy and thats always fun to watch

Depends on your lifestyle. Personally, I like big dogs but they are harder to bring around with you everywhere you go. I had to make arrangements to borrow my parent's truck when I went camping with my dog. Also, when he got older it was even harder because I had to left him into the bed of the truck or pull out a board so he can walk up it. Big dogs get hip problems as they get older. To be honest tho, I would NOT have traded it for the world! He was the best dog and it was the best 14 years of my life!

I would get a beagle if I were you..I have one. sounds to me like you're looking for a friendly dog. German shepards are too big and chihuahauas are easy to step on and squash...beagles are those cute dogs with floppy ears and they are about 15in. to the shoulder. and get a female dog whatever kind you get. they will attach to you and defend you more readily than a male. males make friends with everyone...

That is a wide spectrum of difference!! I think it depends on your lifestyle, living space and what kind of time you have to devote to your new pupppy. Interested to know what made you choose between 2 completely different breeds.
