We should instill the Word of God into the minds and hearts of our children, and teach them about God and about Jesus and what He did to save us (Proverbs 9:10, Proverbs 22:6).
It is true that some of the characters in the Bible are whiners, cheats, scoundrels, etc (there’s Jonah, David, Solomon, Moses and many more). But we have to remember to teach our kids that we are, and can be just as guilty and sinful as they were when we do the same things. We can be honest with the characters in these stories because they were just like we are: fallible, stupid at times, selfish, unfaithful, ungrateful and disobedient (when reading the Bible, stop occasionally and ask the children what they would think or do in that situation). You don’t even have to invent a lesson in these Bible stories because they are already riddled with lessons that can be learned.

Infants can learn....even before John the Baptist was born he leaped with gladness when his mother, Elizabeth, heard the sound of Jesus mother, Mary's voice Luke 1 :44
Jesus said let the young children come to me and do not try to stop them ...Luke 18:15-17
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a boy and when he grows old he will not depart from his path.
Shadrach, Meshac and Abednego were 3 Hebrew children who refused to bow to the king and were thrown into the firey furnace...who do you think taught them to stay close to Jehovah so that they could stand firm in the face of such persecution? Daniel 3rd chapter.

You overlook that the Bible tells us to teach our children from infancy the Bible and Since our creator knows what is best for us more so than you do I think that examples like timothy and others who were trained from infancy and followed the Bible are good examples and ll people make mistakes in life and by reading about them it helps us wise one to avoid making the same mistakes so it help to know more from experience than to make inane comments with out all the facts Gorbalizer

Here's a story that SHOULD be in the bible, but instead its a tale from and about the movie Yellow Submarine. Let this be a parable of mine, if you will.
First, let me start by saying that if you haven't seen Yellow Submarine, this might be hard to follow. If you are a fan, this might be the first time you've realized what the movie is exactly implying. I will share that with you in story from!
Here goes. The answer to life's greatest questions lie in the Beatles movie Yellow Submarine. If you haven't seen it, pick up a copy and watch it. Here goes:
There was a nowhere man, named Jeremy Hillary Boob. He was a Ph.D In ALL THAT THERE IS TO KNOW, as told on his very own business card which he handed to the Beatles.
He was explaining to them he's very, very busy, because there is "so little time, ha ha! So much to know!" He sounds kind of like us people some times, huh? In fact, he represents the average, unenlightened person, capable of what I'll call "getting the big picture" but he's also "very likely not going to get it all on his own, because he has no time to stop and think. He's busy doing things." Anyway, This poor fella, well HE was writing a book, and doing all sorts of other stuff, but one thing that really caught me about what he said about that book he was writing in the movie; "And while I compose, it, I'm also reviewing it."
Let me share a little something with you. I was having, shall we call it, a "visionary experience" while I was watching this movie, (about 8 years ago, probably the hundredth time I'd seen it.) Sometimes big answers to even bigger questions seem to fill my head when I get to thinking about them in this 'visionary" state... And all at once, what I realized was that the entire movie was a statement against society and those in Power (The blue meanies) and human kind(Jeremy Hillary Boob), and how we think we know so much, but really we are here proofing our own work. we are the ones who definitively state that "this is how things are because we figured them out,and then officially decided that we are right" ....
And the whole purpose of the movie, is to describe this utopia called Pepperland which is where we COULD be, if only we were able to receive answers from outside of ourselves. From a place available, say, only to someone with an EXPANDED consciousness, (like Mr. Mackey on the acid trip episode of south park, kids!) and in that movie they imply, during the part where the Beatles get to the foothills of the headlands, and ask where they are going to the heads, and the heads response is obviously "Around in circles" ...Well RIGHT THEN they luckily found some sort of strange powder on the ground all over. They picked it up, blew it all around and everyone sneezed and inhaled it (funny!) and then all of a sudden John Lennon starts singing Lucy inthe Sky with Diamonds. And then MAGICALLY the Beatles are transported out of the colorless drab envirnonment back to pepperland, the utopia in the process of having the word Yes and all things colorful destroyed by the meanies, and essentially save the human race with their message of Hope, Pepper, and Music for all. And Jeremy Hillary Boob REALIZES AT THE END that its NOT ABOUT KNOWING EVERYTHING or HAVING ALL THE ANSWERS, but rather its simply about BEING ACCEPTING OF OTHERS, and SAYING YES, and that above all else, the universe is filled with a vast endless pool of love and perfection, awaiting us to tap into it and experience all that we are meant to with our tiny human brains by getting a little HELP, from our friends, which allows us to take on a point of view more grand, benevloent, and understanding then our own.

This was all sin that needs to be avoided. I wouldn't hide anything from my kids cause they could learn from it, obviously though you don't sit a four year old in front of an R rated movie. Kids learn these things early in school though, you might as well get to them before their "well meaning" "friends" do.

Children mature at different ages. Parents are the best judges of when a child is mentally able to face more adult issues.

When they can read them for themselves. I'm not saying to specifically point out those stories to young kids, but if they find it on their own and ask about it explain it to them.

Children shouldn't. The biggest cause of atheism is people are confronted with the religion all of their young lives, and are driven by maturity to look at other things. Its natural. Ever notice how so many people who find God, never knew anything about him before?
