Just had total knee replacement on left knee Sept. 13, so am about 6 week post surgery at age 51. Have pre-existing condition but can tell you that it's not that bad. First couple of days I was pretty out of it and did not feel a lot of pain. You will begin therapy day after surgery and should be up walking then also. I was only in hospital for 5 days then came straight home. If you have the option of going to a rehab. hospital for a week or so would recommend this as I really felt that I was a big burden on fiance who is looking after my care. My doctor would not do both at same time so cannot tell you if it's any big benefit or not. Pain is there a bit but it is different from pain it has replaced. Was originally told that would be off work from 6 weeks to 6 months, when doc filled in form said 3 months then gradual return to work. I would recommend this surgery to anyone who needs it but be aware that these knees need to be replaced approximately every 10 years.

do not do both at the same time, you need one knee for stability while the other heals, the joint feels fine and you can resume most activities as soon as you are up and walking, extreme activities are not recommended (skydiving, trampoline, anything that is high impact) my friend had one done and is back driving 18 wheelers within 3 months
