This question doesn't make sense. how can you see early footage of MMA before MMA was around. Now they may have used mixed martial arts then but it was probably not coined MMA then. Gracie probaly just used straight BJJ so it wasn't anything mixed at all. but as stated before you can't have footage of something before ti was around. MMA footage before MMA was around now that is Hilarious.

Short Answer: Maybe. It depends on HOW you train, not WHAT you're training in. Anything that makes you faster, stronger, more coordinated and develops your sense of timing will help you in the street. Realize that MMA only refers to the mixing of different styles of martial arts; it is not its own art. The mixing of disciplines is effective because the disciplines being mixed are effective on their own. Wing Chun will train your reflexes and sensitivity like nothing else. Boxing will teach how to hit hard and move properly. Shotokan makes you tough as nails. The key to all of these is how they are trained. The style you choose will mean nothing if your training is empty. This is the case with Tae Kwon Do. As a martial art, it is equal to all the others. However, the majority of TKD schools have chosen to turn it into a sport, training only for point sparring and forms, which makes their students less able to defend themselves. The same could hold true for MMA. Good training will make you a better fighter, while bad training can limit you to the ring.

Video of the Antonio Inoki vs. Muhammad Ali fight is out there somewhere. There are probably quite a few fights promoted by the Inoki dojo available on video.

You can find older fight tapes if you look for vale tudo or stuff from Brazil. I've seen some Marco Ruas that was fairly old, so I know it's out there. I don't know if I helped much, it just comes down to digging around for it.
