I mean, when was the last time you saw some afghani bud or opium? That shits expensive even if you could get it.

All my drugs come from Mexiaco and Texas and local Home-growers. None of which are terrorists.

Looking ahead: The middleman makes the most money. I won't mention him here, but he gets it straight from the farmers at an extremely discount (bulk) rate.

It is assumed that terrorist organizations get funded by running or by being partnered with drug organizations. I believe it is also assumed that illicit drugs and guns go together (sell drugs, get money, buy guns?). I don't have a direct answer for you, but rather food for further thought...

Now, I don't know that I've ever seen a connection actually made, but you can hypothesize that a kingpin in America sells cocaine from South America to the street, then he takes the money and buys black market assault weapons here; THEN, he turns around and sells it to terrorists at a bigger profit.

So, where do the terrorists get the money to buy the guns in the first place, you may ask? That's where the second part of your question comes into play. America is only one market amongst many in the world. Just because we don't have a lot of opium here doesn't mean it isn't prevalent elsewhere. Perhaps they sell it somewhere else to get the money to buy our guns?

I'm sure the situation is very complex, and perhaps I have the completely wrong answer, but it's a thought. Some interesting reading can be found in the link below, but take it with a grain of salt until you find corroboration:

Then you are uninformed pot and cocaine from Latin America are the prime money makers for terrorist groups in south America. The drug makers and the terrorist formed an alliance where by the terrorist keep the govt off the dealers and producers backs. As for the Afghan drugs they end up here in the USA and while you don't buy them others do. drugs are the main source of Taliban wealth and they have the added benefit of wrecking American peoples lives and cost us more money to treat and enforce our drug laws a win win for the terrorist. If you use local bud that's fine but there are a lot of people who use whatever they can get just depends on where you live and what kind of connections your local supplier has.

Well, I have first hand knowledge how it works, as I was in Afghanistan during OEF5. The growers sell to blakmarketeers to ship across the mulitple boarders the product, which is cultivated and transformed into a usable product. It is then sold from those countries through legal trade routes overseas to mulitple sources when it then trickles down to the street level salesmen.

How much opium is grown in Texas?
How much opium is grown in Mexico?

There is no doubt that someone is buying the products of Afghanistan.
There is no doubt that the secret services are involved in drug running.
There is no doubt that someone has to benefit from the War on Drugs.

Think of the big picture, and not just your locale!

Just because the drugs are not in the U.S. does not mean money is not going to the terrorists.

My midshipman (I live in Annapolis, MD) a year ago seized a barge with 10,000 pounds of hash and marijuana on it. Came out of the middle east somewhere.

Persuasive speeches are best when they're are thought up by you. You have to have feeling for them. If we pick something and you do it just because it's not the norm, but you don't have any feeling for it, it won't be a good speech. Think about the world, then take something you want to change.

read this news item, note that the Taliban were opposed to opium cultivation, but are now said to be supporting it. Some analysts point out that many of the militants protecting the poppy fields are not Talibani

It's all about putting fear into the American people. Read the Patriot Act. I don't recall voting for any of it's contents. Do you?
