Your husband took personal time right? If he did then the XO really can't say anything. As long as all the paperwork for his request for personal time was put in and he still had some personal time left to take then he should be fine. Sounds to me like the XO just like trying to throw his weight around. No, just because you took it up there is not going to get your husband in trouble, because honestly you shouldn't have had to take anything up there.

Sounds like the XO just wanted to do a little "corrective training"...he's a jerk...he got the paper he wanted in a timely manner...which I'm sure if your husband delivered it to him after surgery he'd be getting a lecture on being timely. "Getting in trouble" can mean many things....Your husband didn't do anything to warrant any formal counselling, administrative action, etc...however, he can be on the XO's "sh1tlist" for a long as the XO wants....no use whining and crying and I'm sure your husband won't care. Remember...there's always a CO above that XO....he's the guy who you should care if you piss off.

Technically, yes and no. If the XO ordered your husband to do something, your husband wasn't following orders when you brought it in. However, my guess is any sane CO would laugh at his XO's recommendation to actually punish your husband unless your hubby has a history of not following orders and/or has lied about medical emergencies in the past. It also depends on your husband's rank in all of this.....AND how willing his supervisor is to back up his troop (which is the "supervisor's" job) So many factors!

Did he say it in a mean tone? Maybe he was just saying your husband should have brought it so you didn't have to go out of you way to get the paperwork to him. Maybe if he did sound mad, it was because the xo thought your hubby made you bring it down there when you should be at home resting. I bet its not as bad as you think.

He won't get in trouble, but they may look down on him slightly for it. When someone else delivers papers like that it makes the person that was supposed to bring it look irresponsible. As long as he does good work, i wouldn't worry about it. He'll have to talk to the XO and he can explain why you brought the paper.
But for future reference, anytime it happens again take the form to the base hospital and leave it for your husband to deliver.

Sounds like your husband's chain of command is being a bit ridiculous, ...especially if your husband is in the medical field (you'd daid he was assisting in surgery). Over the course of a 20+ year career in the Navy, I had many sailors whose wives and/or children became ill and needed the day to care for them. Unless they'd abused my trust in the past, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. I hate to say this, but it sounds like there may be some "history" there between your husband and his chain of command.

The XO said that he must provide proof, not that he must present that proof personally. If they try to get him in trouble, talk to JAG. Open and shut.

Yes and No. If his chain of command directed him to personally bring it in, then it could be construde as failure to follow a direct order, but being that it was because of you he was absent, and you brought in proof, and logical and understanding commander should slide it under the rug and forget it. But there are sticklers in the military, just as in the civilian world.
