Just wondering how long they last.

I've had this mattress/box spring set since 2000 (bought new). It's been moved about 3 times (to different houses). I noticed just last night the boxspring is sagging (I think it broke) on my hubby's side. Yeah,.... I think it's time to get a new one.

depends on the quality to begin with as well as how many people typically sleep on it. Is it used nightly, or just as a guest bed? Are the users heavy people or light weight people? Is there a lot of physical activity on the bed? Under normal usage, by normal, size people, with a good quality bed to begin with, I would guesss that you should get 10 years or more out of it. I know my parents and grandparents still have beds that have been in use for 40 years or more. I wouldn't call them especially comfortable or high quality beds, but they are still being used today. I think I would buy a new about about every 10 years. I'm just basing this on my personal experiences as I have no professional knowledge of the lifespan of a bed.

It depends on the quality of your mattress and the manufacturer. For example, Sealy states:

"20 Year limited Warranty - Sealy, Inc. guarantees that your TrueForm mattress will be replaced or repaired at our option without cost to you, shoudl it be deemed defective because of faulty workmanship or structural defects during the first ten (10) years of the warranty, excluding specific limitations contained herein. The second ten (10) year period is the pro-rated portion and is detailed in the warranty schedule section of this document. It is understood that this limited warranty does not cover a normal change in softness of the TrueForm memory foam or change in the slow recovery feature of the foam which does not affect the performance qualities of the mattress."

So, if they will warranty it for that long, it will probably last that long. We had a top-of-the-line mattress and it lasted 16 years! After that, we started getting backaches and bought a new one, which cured the problem.

The average life of a box spring mattress set is 8 to 10 years. When you start feeling uncomfortable with your box spring mattress set, replace the box spring mattress at the same time. rotate box springs every three months to stay long.

I would say 5-10 years depending upon how expensive, if you care for it well, do not spill anything on mattress, no urination on it (like from kids or animals). If taken care of well and flipped everytime sheets are changed for even wear; I would say 10 years or more.
