Yes. The pain can be severe enough to mimic a heart attack. Gas accumulating in the splenic flexure of the colon can cause painful distention that is referred to the chest. Some people get immediate relief after passing gas or after a bowel movement. Distention of the hepatic flexure is less common, but can cause similar symptoms. Pain can be referred to the chest from gall bladder disease. Passing excessive gas and belching are symptoms. Then there's gastric reflux with esophagitis. The list grows longer. Seeing your doctor is your best bet.

My friend will get intense pains in this area that almost knock her to the floor. We have rushed her to the MD but ECG was normal. Yes, gas can cause this intense pain. I know this sounds gross but if you have relief after farting, the problem probably is gas that just isn't getting out. Di-Gel works great for gas. You havent specified your age but do have an ekg or stress test if this keeps up.

Could be gas or could be inflamed cartilage where your ribs meet the spine. The pain gets transferred and feels like it is in your chest near your heart. Go see your doctor.
