Yes, there are many medical staffing agencies that will supply a nurse. The medications and treatments will be administered by the hospital nursing staff. At most you will want a setter or nurse's aide to help with physical activities.

Yes you should be able to obtain a private duty nurse for 8 hours a day, you will probably want to speak with a social worker at the hospital they may have certain agencies that they work with. An outside agency or private nurse will probabally need to be approved by the hospital to assure they have proper credentials. Private duty nurses will probably be fairly expensive maybe $30-$40 an hour or more, depending on where you live. Agencies will be more expensive since they have a fee on top of what they pay the nurse, an individual nurse will be cheaper but your hospital may only work with agencies. If money is an issue you may want to think about a CNA as opposed to a nurse, depending upon the type of care your father may be needing. Also weekends, evening and night hours will cost more than Mon-Fri daytime hours.

IF you could get the hospital to agree to this and IF you could find a nurse (RN?) willing to do this it would be very expensive, close to $40 and hour and your insurance will NOT cover this since it will not be considered necessary treatment. If he is in a nursing home you might find a personal aid or LPN for the job. An LPN would run you $25 to $30 per hour and an aid at least $10. I'm curious to know what his medical condition is that he is hospitalized and yet also needs the specialized care of a private duty nurse.
