It absolutely depends on where you live, like a lot of large metro areas. There are some very good public schools and some very bad ones and a lot in the middle. I live here and have for nearly 20 years. I don't have kids but if I did I would bring them up here (although I would probably move out to the burbs for better schools, or, if I could afford it, into the Emory/Midtown area for the culture plus good schools). I would recommend anyone wanting to raise a family here give strong consideration to where you live and where you work because commutes can be long and grueling and really cut into your family time and the quality of time you have when you do finally get home. It's a great place if you can find a quality place to live pretty close to your job but a lot of people live way out of town and work in town and that can really get old in a hurry--and as I said, really cut into your quality time with the family.

Like any other place some parts are better than others, but on a whole, Atlanta is a wonderful place to raise a family. I grew up in Atlanta, and I love it.

The schools are fine if you are in a good area. There are also a number of fantastic private schools, but they can be expensive.

I would be cautious of schools in Atlanta city limits. Metro Atlanta (suburban areas) have better schools and neighborhoods to choose from. Northern Gwinnett County has some good schools (meaning the students excel academically).

But I think it's also important to keep in mind that there's danger lurking in every corner. Even the "best" neighborhood or "best" school can bring on potential problems. But the well-to-do neighborhoods are usually protected because no one wants everyone to know they can be just as dangerous as the inner city.

It depends. I went to Atlanta area public schools and now I'm attending an academically rigorous school with a great reputation. Some areas have really bad schools but Cobb and north Fulton schools have been awarded some of the best in the country.

P.S. the city of Roswell was just listed as the 18th safest city in the COUNTRY
