Catholics pray to Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, Chrisitians (I'm a Christian) pray to God, the creator of everything.

It's their doctrines and the way they worship. They also all believe differently about how someone is saved.
But there is only one true Church - the Church spoke of in the New Testament. The Bible is quite clear about that and how to become a member of Christ's church and be saved.
Here's what the Bible says:
One cannot become a Christian or be a member of Christ's Church without doing the following:
1) Believe John 3:16
2) Publicly Confess Jesus as the Son of God Matt. 10:32- 33
3) Repent of your sins Luke 13:3, Acts 2:38
4) Be baptized for the remission of sins Mark 16:16, Acts
2:38
5) Live faithfully
Catholics do not teach the above.
I had many Catholic friends growing up so I know a little about it, but I don't profess to be an expert. Here's what I do know
1) The Bible says in Matthew to call no man your father in the spiritual sense because there is only one Father and what are Catholic priests called...
2) The Bible also speaks against church leaders wearing special garments (also in Matthew), but priest and other church officials have special garments.
3) The Bible says the way to be forgiven of your sins is to repent and ask God for forgiveness, not say "Hail Marys" or "Our Fathers"
4) They baptize infants which the Bible does not teach as there is no need for them to be baptized because scriptural baptism is for the remission of sins and babies cannot sin because they do not know right from wrong and therefore cannot choose to do wrong. Trangression of the law is the scriptural definition of sin according to 1 Jn.
There are many other points but these are just some of the reasons that I don't believe that Catholics are Christians and not "the church"
I wear my name Christian very proudly. We should strive to be New Testament Christians only.
Actually, true Christianity came before Catholicism, Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran or any other offshoot.
I hope this helps. God bless!

rgoergi is a moron....lovelylady is more accurate. I was raised as a catholic but have a problem w/their teachings. Catholics believe only a priest can interpret the bible. Christians recruit, where as in catholics, they don't really have to. What is even more strange, is that there are many Christians who don't see eye to eye on ONE thing and completely dismiss each other. Some Christians believe God sent down his purest son to be crucified for our sins. For the sins of adam and eve and so on... Some Christians believe God was Jesus Christ in human form. Christians debate this any chance they get. They dismiss the Catholic church as being more of a corporation than an entity of God. Hope this helps.

Catholicism is definitely more about sacred rituals. Catholics also pray to different saints for certain things. Generally speaking, Christians only pray to God "in the name of Jesus". Most Christians would argue against praying to saints. Also, the Catholic Bible has several books that the Christian Bible lacks. Some say King James removed the books b/c he didn't see them fit, others say the Catholics added them to aid in their power. Christians do not believe in the power of the pope either.

dogmatic doctrines.
All Catholics are Christian, not all Christians are Catholics (squares and rectangles if you will)
Most non-Catholic religious groups sprang after Martin Luthers Reformation and King Henry VIII spilt over reasons of divorce.

that's how most of this ended up happening. The diffrences can be tiny or large, it depends on what group of Christians you look at, it is just diffrent interpertastions of the same person speaking (Look at the Life of Brian, and you'll see a really well exaggerated example of what happened toward the end).
Also in Catholicisim there is doctrine that allows for pray of intercession from the Saints and prophets. The Virgin Mary is the most well recognized, but there are hundreds of saints that most people don't know of. It is a major diffrence between most protestant groups and the early encarnations of Christianity.

Catholicism is the original form of Christianity.
Edit:
Don't be afraid. The first thing I would do is read the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Don't go up for communion. But other than that, do what others are doing. I suggest that you talk to your local parish priest and learn as much as you can about the faith from reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I also highly recommend listening to Catholic radio and watching EWTN (the Catholic channel) if it is available to you.
I converted as an adult to the Catholic faith, and I am glad to be Catholic.
Here are some good Catholic links:

Catholic are Christians. the only basic difference between any Christian religious belief system and another are the various ways the Rituals and ceremonies are performed. other than these minor differences all Christian Religions are the same basic concept.

Catholicism came before Christianity........... and if you decide to convert to Christianity dont do it and then say bad stuff about the Catholic religion. I hate it when people do that, when in the first place they werent even practicing Catholics. If you know what the Catholic religion is about then you decide to convert then go for it, but they are gonna try to make you convert...... and yes Christians only pray to Jesus and God, and Catholics do pray to Mary , the mother of Jesus, ........We pray with saints, not to them.
but we also pray to God

There is no difference, as they describe different things. Catholicism is a religion. A type of Christianity. Christianity is the belief in Christ. There are many forms of Christianity, one of them being Catholicism.
