as long as it fits in the overhead compartments, its fine. But i'm sure secuirty will want to look at the contents in the box.

Many people from the third world, when they travel home use card b oard boxes to take along their gifts for the relatives. (must meet the size limits of the carriers 62" l+W+H in total) Just take at look at the Philippine Airlines Check In counter at LAX and you'll see what I mean (they call their boxes Balikbayan Boxes - which means boxes of those returning to their country). If you live in a city with many people from such third world counntries, go to a place like Costco. They sell them. Be sure to mark your box with a colored ribbon to easily identify when picking up.

Yes, but be careful it is not as strong as a suitcase so don't have anything fragile in there. Also remember that you will have to be carrying it around the airport and at your connecting airports with no handles or wheels.

Sure you can check it in but you really should reinforce the sides because they throw everything. Don't put anything in it that could be broken. I doubt they let you take it onboard unless its fairly small.
