Six week old infants are unlikely to catch strep throat from a family member. Not impossible but mostly unlikely. However if you suspect the child does have it get to the pediatrician right away the fevers can be quite high with strep.

Yes. It is quite common for children that young to get infections because their immune system is still developing defense mechanisms. Children that young can run fevers of 104 and it is considered normal. The doctors usually recommend only allowing a small number of people to come in contact with your child. And to avoid other young children, because schools harbor many children with colds and viruses. They also say before allowing other people even family members, to ask politely if they could wash their hands before holding the baby. I've heard that breastfeeding helps infants build their immune system. At that early of an age though, it is fairly weak.

Yes, they can. You need to call the doctor now. Not to scare you but when they are little like that I would not question it. It is always better to call the doctor and get them seen. If this is your first I just want to let you know we are entering into sick season. Baby's need to build up their imune systems at first so it seems like they get sick easier, unless you are breast feeding than I think they get some of ours. But anyways I would just be careful and wash or wipe their hands off after leaving a store. The best of luck to you. And get that baby seen, please.
