Just Joshing! But seriously folks, when this 'Where can I get a miniature _______ dog?' fad ends, do you think people will swing the other way & start asking 'Where can I get a giant Chihuahua?' ? What do you predict will be the next pet craze? Just curious.

Wouldn't it be WONDERFUL if the vast "civilian population" developed ***BRAINS*** at ALL????

So we didn't have CRINGE at the ABYSMAL ignorance *&* sheep-like behavior they consistently display????

That we can dream of folks who'll actually get off their lazy butts & RESEARCH ???
Nah,I know it'll never happen....sigh

George Carlin said it best,"50% of the population is of BELOW average intelligence."

OK, I'll be serious. I think that many people want a miniature this or a miniature that because they admire the qualities of certain large breeds, but are intimidated by the work involved in owning a big dog. You know, more food, exercise and grooming.

I do not think this trend will be reversed because the work has always been to downsize large breeds. Yes we do breed for extra-large size in some of our giant breeds (Great Dane, Mastiff, Irish Wolfhound), But a giant Chihuahua? Yuck!

I have only had an Irish Wolfhound and Great Dane mix. She was a great big, and I mean big, 140 lb gentle giant. At that time we lived in the county on 12 acres so she and the other dogs had a lot of running room. She was a great house dog, she would find a place to lay down and not run around. She was so tall that if you were sitting in a chair and she sat in front of you she was looking you straight in the eye. She loved everyone, one of the sweetest dogs I have ever had. As has been mentioned before it cost a lot to feed them, it cost more to feed her then it the two horses. Dog food cost more then hay and grain.

Well, there are minatures available in many breeds. My American Eskimo is a standard size, but there are also minature and toy American Eskimo dogs. For some people, I think they really prefer the smaller dogs as they feel less threatened if a small dog has dominance issues... that whole ankle biter thing. They also are better suited for smaller homes and apartment living as they don't require the space.

Me, I'll always have a medium size dog or bigger. I'm not personally into the toys, however cute they are (and they are cute). A larger dog is going to make that guy thinking about breaking into my home less likely to do so and search for a home with no dogs, or smaller ones. I love having a dog I can wrap my arms around for a hug and don't have to carry everywhere. I feel safer walking at nite with my American Eskimo, than with our little Doxie. Tho I'm sure he'd be a little protective, he can only do so much.

Let's just hope people don't get into coloring their dogs hair... I just couldn't handle that one!

Whatever the biggest Hollywood movie star comes up with next will, IMO, be the next fad.

Example: Yorkshire Terrier registrations are up HUGELY since Paris Hilton started carrying around her little Yorkie.

The next craze will be dogs in designer colors.

The specially colored dogs will be marketed as "rare" and they will all be colors/combinations that are discriminated against by the national breed clubs. (shame on them, they're jealous)

There will be breeds in brindle that have never been brindle before and breeds in white or blue that previously existed only in shades of brown or red.

That's my bet.
