It doesn't make sense to me that there will be any peace loving folks left after all hell breaks loose on the planet. Could it be interpreted that those who fight the battle & are victorious learn from the mistake & become peace loving?

No, what it means is that those who trust Gods judgement rather than their own wants, are the meek in the eyes of God.

Thats an interesting question. May I suggest that these people are not hiding,that in fact, they are very visable.You yourself have probably seen them.At Matt.24:14...Jesus tells his disciples." And
this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited

There are people engaged in this life saving work now,'as we speak'

Or it could be interpreted that the meek are the only ones who will be left when the rest of the world is done killing each other.
