You can try all the above, but be aware that only phone numbers listed in a phone book will be listed. Cell phones and unlisted numbers will not show up.
However, the first 6 digits (in the US, other countries th length will be different) will tell you at least what state, city, and in some cases what part of the city, the call was made from. For example, 281-437 using the NXX code tells me that the state is Texas, the city is Houston and the 437 is from the Blue Ridge exchange which is in South Central Houston (Missouri City to be more exact). Also that the Local carrier is ATT&T (formerly SBC).
This will possibly give you an idea of who might be calling you.
