Joshua is an Old Testament typological character of Jesus in the New Testament.
(Jesus (Greek) in the Hebrew would be Joshua, or J'shua, meaning "Jehovah is salvation.")

What the commandments cannot do for mankind, Jesus does for those who believe on Him. ]
