Because people dont know the truth. Its not about religion its about a personal RELATIONSHIP with the Lord people make up doctrines that base there whole church, world, life off of one scripture in all reality they have not even read the 3 before if or the 1 after it thats where arguments come in.

Because it's an extremely touchy subject and so many different religions claim to be the "right" one which causes members of other religions to argue who is "right."
I believe that everyone is right, to a degree, but the argument lies with how much are they right and which details are they right about? That area can get a bit muddy and downright dangerous.

Because most religions are adamant that *their* religion is the One. Also, Humans have never ever agreed to disagree on the Name and Attributes of the Divine. Blessings.

Because one of the main purposes of organized religion is to consolidate power and maintain obedience. If a religion doesn't claim "absolute rightness", then it can't dominate society.

because people want to know there is a good reason they are living their life the way they are living it (ie, following a religion), so when anyone questions it, they defend it to the end so they can continue to justify their lives and choices.

like politics, it's one of those subjects that just encourages it.
