Well, it depends what you mean by "as good as" . Most sparkling water is more acidic than still so is not good for your teeth in large amounts. The question seems to assume that bottled water is better than tap water. Britain has the best quality tap water in Europe so it's scandalous that so much is spent on bottled water. It takes enormous amounts of energy to transport water about and is not good for the environment.

The "sparkling" water has nothing to do with the quality of the water - it's just water with added carbonation.

The best water is spring water because it has more minerals in it. Distilled water is actually less beneficial for you because everything that's not water is filtered out. Also, it doesn't tend to have much of a taste. It's more "sterile".

In some places, tap water is better for you than even spring water. It depends on where the tap water is coming from. A friend of mine grew up on tap water that came from a flouride enriched natural resevoir - he never had a cavity as a kid and didn't get his first one until he moved away.

As far as I can see, the only difference is that sparkling water has a bit of carbon dioxide in it.

It is as good for you and also has the benefit of releasing gas from your stomach so you feel less full. One of the reasons Europeans prefer sparkling water with their meals is because by releasing the gas as you eat, you have more room to eat more and will feel less bloated.

In Europe, the belief is that sparkling water is better for you as it helps the digestive system.

The healthiest water I've heard is steam distilled. But as long as you drink ENOUGH water, you're gonna benefit!! Some municipalities have the cleanest water, other sources are riddled with impurities.

the fizzy water is carbonated the the acid it produces can actually attack your teeth even though it has no sugar in it. I know this because i am a dental nurse.
