The whole point is that Satan was a creation of God's as well as was mankind. The question that arose in the Garden of Eden was whether or not God was a righteous ruler, and also, Satan called God a liar, by telling Eve that she positively would not die(but she did). Until that point man would have lived forever, Satan knew that, that is why he is referred to as the father of the lie. Satan led the rebellion against God that has resulted in death, sickness, poverty, war, crime, and so on...God's purpose for the earth and mankind was corrupted for a time (until enough time passes) for us to realize that we need God and that living independently from God has brought upon ourselves all the suffering that goes on around us. You can thank Satan(which means Resister), for leading us down that path of destruction. But God has given us a way out.
Since we have free will, we can do something evil and be the one accountable for it, of course, but it was Satan who was accountable for bringing forth the beginning of sin, and Eve and Adam followed....

How about perjury, fraud, and murder?
Satan fell victim to Pride. Because of this, he was banned from heaven, and told that his place would be taken by mere humans. That pissed him off. So he set about messing with humanity so that couldn't happen. But God is in control regardless of what satan attempts.
And you're right. Our actions ARE independent from anything that Satan does. Temptation to sin comes from the World, the Flesh, AND the Devil.

Is Saddam evil? Ask Iraqis and half will say no. Freedom fighter or evil man? All depends on which side of the fence you stand on. Religious people need to just realize that they aren't 100% right about everything. Think about it. You are judging everything you beleive in the entire world on a 2000 year old book that has parts ommitted from the original, and a lot of which is lost in translation. Accept it, religion has more holes than a 10 mile block of swiss cheese!

Reading the bile - oops, bible - objectively, you'll realize that "satan" didn't have "ambition" nor was "he" a temptor. The only things "satan" ever did was:
1. Ask questions (eg. "god" and Job).
2. Suggest that people think for themselves (eg. jeebus under the Baobab tree).
3. Suggest that people seek knowledge (eg Adam and Steve).
The only violence or criminal behaviour that "satan" is accused of is in the book of Retaliations - oops, Revelations - which are only claims of future events and have NOT happened; ergo, they are unfounded accusations, not statements of fact (as if there are any in the buybull...).
If anyone in the babble - oops, bible - is "evil", it's the "god" that people claim belief in: multiple mass murders, vindictive and petty behaviour (eg. killing people for saying things), rape of a teenage girl, etc.
Objectively comparing the two, "satan" is the good guy and "god" is the violent and evil one who scares people into following him.

I was born to die because he lied to Eve and Eve began to desire the fruit. Desire when it has become fertile gives birth to sin. Sin in turn leads to death. Eve died and Adam chose to be disobedient too rather than having faith in God to remain obedient to him. Who knows in what way God would have outworked his purposes if Adam had remained loyal to God before his Beautiful companion that was a part of him.
Sadly Adam did join in unwittingly part of the rebellion and we are all born dying and suffer immensely as man dominates man to his injury with our political and religious and economic systems.
I blame Satan for that one thing is enough John 8 v 44
He really put a spanner in the gears. how tragic our lives are in prospect compared to god's intended purpose. Can you see the difference or has Satan got you blinded ?
