It never got to that level with one, but she laid out that she wanted more or I would have to walk.
I walked.

I think that's ridiculous-the guy is supposed to "want" to get the girl an engagement ring as a promise that he will marry her, not because she said to do it or threatened to leave. She might get the ring, but that still doesn't mean she's gonna get what she wants in the long run, actually its very unlikely.

It happened to my brother, they were dating for about 6 years and she said "I want a ring on my birthday or I am gone" he didnt give her a ring (they were living together) and she moved out and in with another guy who had lots of money, fancy house, new car etc.
Its very sad ... my theory "who wants to buy the cow if they are getting the milk for free?"
Seriously though, its a really tough situation and noone should be manipulative like that. If a girl says that and leaves ... you are better off without her. There are planty of nice girls out there who are not manipulative.

Yes and I married him and it was the worse rush decision I ever made! I am now divorced. I also have a good friend that did the same thing with her boyfriend of 5 years and he walked! She now has an awesome boyfriend that really cares for her. So sometimes you just have to enjoy everyday for what it is and not push things that shouldn't be pushed.

Why would you want to try and force someone to marry you that is not ready to marry you. Most of the time with demands like these the guy will leave. Be patient. If you are young you need to relax.

It happened back when I was in college...we had lived together etc..for about 6 months...and all I wanted was a RING...BUT he kept dragging his feet...He disappeared one weekend and I thought..okay...he's gone...when he came back...I had heard through a grapevine that he had bought me the ring I liked...the night he PLANNED on giving me the ring...his EX girlfriend called our house and told me..I went with D***** to get your ring...I even tried it on...After hanging up with her...he walked through the door...(this was BEFORE cell phones were big!) and he sat me down...he got the ring out and I then thanked him for making me the happiest woman in the world...HIM being with Tammy to buy my ring...was all I needed to END THIS JOKE!! He then told me to shove the ring up my ***!! When I moved out...his mother(who I still , 25 yrs later, STILL get along with!)said..Donald wanted me to get the ring back from you...I said..tell him when I get it out of my ***, Tammy can have it!! She was dumped by him shortly after this...and when I saw D***** on my 25th birthday...at a club he said "letting you go was the WORST thing I could have EVER DONE!! You are the best thing that EVER happened to me..." I laughed in his face!!
Saw his mother last summer, she still hugs me and asks me how my children are doing etc...her son...now on wife #3...wonder if it's the SAME RING!?

If it's right then you won't have to ask,, if you're ready to settle down then this guy or girl ain't for you. Tell them youre ready and let them know that if they're not it is ok but you'll probably be moving on and to prepare themselves for that time.

No I have never done that to my boyfriend, and I never will because if I FORCE him to do something he's not ready for then that might turn him away from liking me and I don't want to make him do anything he isn't ready for. :)

well not to marry me..but to know where our relationship was headed or if we had a future together..most of my relationship ended because they did not want anything serious or wasnt ready to committ to a relationship.
give you guy time..let him propose when he is ready..men tend to need more time

oh yeah he had a chance to committ. You should always let your man say what he feels. then if makes no sense to you move on but always give them a chance
