So the fact that I am an athiest must be part of his plan. I promise I'm not trying to bait anyone with this.
But following on from this, surely if someone says I'm wrong for being an athiest then they are saying God made a flawed me? And that would mean he made a mistake which can't be right. So he must have meant for me to be an atheist and it's wrong to try to convert me out of being one.

Exactly my point Mr Christian. So why should anyone try to change it?

Sun spot baby - You believe homosexuals choose to be gay? Wow.
I dispute this. I have been to the bottom of my soul and asked myself if I believe in God and I don't. To say otherwise would be a lie. I can't choose to believe in something that I have no belief in. It would be like asking me to believe the world is flat or that gravity doesn't work we're all descended from mutant spiders and have little hairs on our feet. Shave your feet and you'd fall off! I just don't believe. IS that so hard to understand?

hookedonflavor - Sorry, doesn't wash that I'm assuming God exists for my question to be valid. If he doesn't exist, as I believe, then we are here by random chance and some of us realise that whilst others find it safer to believe in God. I'm not knocking your faith by the way, I have great respect for anyone with faith, I'm just telling you how I see it if God (as I believe) doesn't exist.

bigvol662004 - "Your environment, choices and free will made you an atheist" Now THAT is a good answer.
I'll grant you the enviroment influence, but I still maintain I have not made a choice about this. I used to think I believed in God when I was younger, but as I grew older and questioned what I saw around me I began to realise that I didn't. That what other people felt or saw was not what I felt or saw. For me there is no inner God. And my point is then, if he does exist, he must have made me that way.

lady_blue_face - "God had you in mind before you were conceived. You are correct, he chose your path. Dont fret, because he will use you as he desires."
Another good answer and precisely my point. If he exists then God laid out my path and he must have a reason for me to be as I am.
I like the angle of free will that some people are suggesting but if I have not made a choice but this is how I am (which is certainly how it feels to me) then there was no free will involved.
Thank you to everyone who is posting by the way. And thank you calmly telling me your views. I appreciate it.

You make an excellent point. If you were a believer you wouldn't be allowed to question it at all. I'm still trying to figure out how he came up with the platypus. If he exists, he has a sense of humor.

Well God is omnipotent and he did create you and he also gave you free will. You freely choose not to believe in him. God did not make you flawed you are created for a purpose and despite the fact that you look away right now he still loves you. You are like a fine painting that he has made and would like to display but you don't have the correct frame yet so he waits.
Have a good afternoon. : )
Don't you see that you make that choice everyday every time you ask a question. I take that back, you said when you were little you did believe in God but as time went on you realized that you didn't anymore. Can I ask, were you raised in a church? It seems that faith somehow slipped away. The bible says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. You see it is possible to lose faith that's why we practice it. Going to church and reading our bibles is just part of that, we need to live it too. So I'll agree you did not vocally make that choice but as you lost faith your heart did. I really hope that you study this out you seem very intelligent. I do believe you are a fine painting and would love to see you displayed for all to see.

OK- Here is the deal- God did not create you as an atheist. He does not create us to act one way or another. He creates us perfect. We are then tempted by the Devil and the ways of the earth and turn from God. This is because God has created us with Free Will or Free choice. Everyone does it. The Bible says "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." God knew this so he sent his one and only son Jesus to live on Earth. While Jesus was here he was just like a human. He had all of the temptations of messing up that we have. However, Jesus was perfect! He never committed a sin. He then died on the cross so that all other humans could be saved with his blood. If you accept Christ as your Savior, your sins are covered by his blood and you will be saved.
God did not make a mistake or mess up when he created you, You made a mistake when you did not choose God. God never makes mistakes.

Yes! You are absolutely right and indeed God created you as what you are but you have to go further then that thought of yours as God is ALL knowing.
Have you seen or egknowledge someone been punished before? Lets say an example of a criminal been put years in jail. And a criminal was exercuted for the crime that he did? The ques is do you want to be in his shoe? I guess your ans is no because you've seen the consequences and afraid. Since you know this, can you just rob any banks? you will definately know the law will catch up on you. THE law shows you examples for that kind of behavior.
Which is better? I teach you by telling you or teach you with examples? 2nd way is better for you am i right?
You are that example.
People won't understand if they can't see and study. You are that example not to follow.
God forbids Homosexuality? Gay people are that example not to follow.
God create you for a purpose not for fun.
BUT listen to this. God gives you mind to think and thats the reason why we humans are more superior then any other animal on this planet.
Since GOD gave you that ability then God DON'T intervene in your thoughts and actions. God expect you to think for your actions. Since HE wants you to think, HE gave some clues here and there. All you need to do is to find it.
This is where you've been lured by your own mind. You stop thinking(or dont bother to think anymore.) This puts you to the same stage as animals. Animal don't think.
Ok you may say "Hey! I've studied too much to understand my actions!" In your case is RELIGION.
Well the world ain't as tiny as you already knew my friend. There once a time where people can't believe a human could fly. There once a time where people can't believe a man could touch the moon. You are in your own world where it did not answer your ques. Try to explore further. Study deeper and understand why believers believe in their believes.
I'm a muslim and i too don't intend to bait you. Study deeper in the world religion. Study deeper in human history and behavior.
I wish you well in finding the truth. But still its your decision and i don't intervene.
Thanks for reading.

The fact that you are an athiest is part of His plan to give every man free-will. His plan is not to make us robots who do His bidding, but He created us free to choose Him.
He promised that He would tell us the truth about Him and His will for our lives. It is our choice to believe and receive it. You are right, God did not make you flawed. He made you just as He wanted you... free to choose Him and get all that He has for you in this life and eternity, or to choose not to believe in Him and receive the penalty that comes with that.
Great presentation of argument, except that it seems you must first believe that God exists to believe that He made you an athiest.
Keep asking questions and seeking the truth!

OK, but what if you were following a natural inclination to be atheist, i.e. every human (except Jesus) that ever lived had that inclination due to the sin of Adam, who He created good, BTW. But Adam's sin would put me in the same boat as you, not deserving Heaven at all. Predestination makes sense that way, where God can choose who He wants as his (adopted) family. And, it's not up to you at all. Like you said, either you believe or you don't. You don't get to select God, neither do I. He's the one to do the calling and give faith to whomever He wants.

You have mis-acknowledged the query. We do not say "some thing that exists have got to have a writer." We say, "God created all matters." The implication is, of direction, that God is pre-current. God did not 'pop out of nowhere'.. God has regularly existed, anything our finite minds can not comprend. A Christian can take delivery of that on religion, however a nonbeliever stumbles on it always. And persons are not simply "slightly bunch of cells..." Even cells are marvelously tricky factories with communications and inherent copy and distribution amenities, all relocating in an geared up procedure as God has ordained them.

God didn't make you an atheist. Part of God's plan is that we are all given the abiltiy to choose how we will live our lives, what we will believe in and so on. Along with this is the fact that each one of us will have to take repsonsibility and the consequences for our choices.
So yes, God created you, however he leaves you to choose your life's path...flawed or not.

The I AM which you are referring to is your spiritual side the one that longs to be with GOD. This I Am is the pure-self that is within yourself. yourself has been effected by your surroundings. When one comes to a enlightenment ( born again as refer in the gospels) one is finding your true self which comes from GOD. this is the I am that is asking this question, pondering to find it's true nature ( the spirit ). the Atheist part of you is the part that has been effected by the meaning of this word just as we all are effected by actions and reactions. I hope this was helpful. peace

LOL wow you're logic is so deep or is it a fallacy please look it up.
Let me clarify some things for you please. God gave you a choice. To choose him or not to choose him. In order for that choice to be true you have to be able to choose something other than him. Hence it being a real choice.
Taking your word "omnipotent" a ruler who has unlimited authority. He can force you to believe who he is. There is not need for you to be an atheist because you would only do his will. Because he takes joy in you choosing him on your own is why you're an atheist.
