The sound of Silence By: Simon and Garfunkle.
Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision
That was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
Beneath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed
By the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share...
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.
"Fools," said I, "you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows."
"Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed in the wells of silence.
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said: "The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls,
And whisper'd in the sound of silence."
I had no idea what to say to this... so here you go!

Different translations of the bible would suggest love and charity are synonmus. Examples found in.1st Corrinthians ch. 13 vs. 1-17 illustrate this many times. I would enjoy hearing from a scholar of the languages used in those past times to clarify my understanding. The story of the "World's Poorest Philanthropist", Gilbert "Harold" Ewing II (myself) is the reason for this querry. The " act of grace", or charity, reffered to in the news interview, has posited this question and I lack the sort of education to provide any insights of true value.

I'm going to skip straight to the person in a coma. Some people who awake after a long time in a coma report hearing the conversations and if a nurse/family member sang or hummed a particular song/tune. they're not necessarily in silence.
When we die, we die. there is complete silence and just as our ECG's would read a flat line, we have no activity whatsoever and the spirits don't float around. When we say goodbye to the dead loved one, it's for us to work out OUR grief and pay the dead respect, but it has nothing to do with them hearing us--they can't.

silence is da absense of sound... no sound vibrations in the air... silence means the same thing to anybody who understands this English word! from man in a coma, a dead man, a fairy, a pixie, to a midget with 3 legs and stick growing out of his face it will still mean the same thing! the absense of sound!

It is the absence of sound.
Used in a sentence: If you can't improve the silence, don't speak.
