I could do it in Excel 97 with MSMap. I do not want to buy MS MAPpoint as I just need to colour the countries, I do not need directions, streets...

Example:

Canada RED
USA GREEN
ITALY YELLOW...

That's all I need to do. How can I do it? Other software? Can OpenOffice .org do it?

There should be a "highlighter" on your tool bar to use; different colors should be available.

Highlight the area where you want to change the color and then
go to the tool bar....usually the far right side there will be a large A and a picture of a bucket..... click on the bucket and pick a color to highlight the whole cell. If you want to highlight just the words pick the A and chose your color.

Hello:

It's convoluted, but it can be done. Take your map, import it into the Paint program (it's usually in your Accessories folder), color it the color it needs to be then copy it back into Excel.

Good luck.
