You need an egg and sperm to create life.
One without the other will die.
End of story...pay attention in biology next time.

This question would be better answered in the Biology section.
To create a person, you must have an egg and a sperm. The sperm fertilizes the egg and becomes a zygote, which later developes into a fetus. The egg by itself is certainly alive, but not a separate organism until fertilized by a sperm.

This is a personal opinion question. Many people beLIEve that a life begins the moment an egg is fertilezed. Others believe that a life begins when an egg attaches itself to the uterus. Others believe that life begins at birth.
I do however, agree with Michael X

The egg is the beginning of life. Every cell that isn't dead or senescent has a life of it's own. We are multi-cellular creatures, not some electric wave riding a lifeless body. Notice that your body does things on it's own without your input.
Btw: I don't believe that an egg develops into a conscious lifeform until it develops conscious thought and stops running on instinct.

The egg contained half your DNA from your mom and the sperm contained half your DNA from your dad. DNA is the instructional blueprint that guided your dividing cells to make your body normally. After you were born and start to grow and develop, you brain cells also grew and multiplied, eventually reaching a stage at which your brain became self-aware and conscious somewhere between 2 and 3 three years old. That's the time at which you have your earliest memories. So YOU began when you were about 2 to 3 years old. Your body began at conception. So your life began at conception and your SELF-AWARE life began at about 2 to 3 yrs of age. Neither science nor religion can answer the question about a so-called soul. We are on our OWN. ALONE.
