I think you are referring to the 'O' glass by Riedel -- see a picture here http://www.riedel.com/website/english/frameset/homeenglish/collections/riedel_collections/oriedel/oriedel.html

They are basically Riedel glasses without stems originally intended for use on yachts, bars etc but gaining popualrity ofr their robustness.

The guy is correct that the Riedel is the most popular brand. They are gaining in popularity and having them featured in GQ did not hurt. The problem is that they are pricey. The glasses range from $5 to $8 each depending on the size.

I found a knock off at Garden Ridge and they were 4 for $10. They look and feel the same and make drinking that extra glass less adventurous because they do not have the stem.

Have you tried to contact the GQ magazine through their online website?

Fill out feedback form and ask them about what type of wine glasses that was used in last month's issue of GQ.
