If this was a friend, I would go out and buy (one each) of a variety and box it up and mail it to them. Just me.

It took me a bit to think of the name, but: 'Marshmallow Peeps.'

I was quite excited to find those when I lived in the States for a few years. Did I eat them? Good god, no, but they were certainly fascinating to look at. They look like decorations, and pretty weird ones at that; not food.

'Jolly Ranchers' are also interestingly disgusting. Anything made by Hershey is a good bet; they've got a somewhat distinctive taste to their chocolate. 'Necco Wafers.' And any old-fashioned candy; those little dots on paper, for example. 'Twizzlers.'

The most fascinating thing for a tourist/non-resident are familiar products in different flavours, I think. Try checking out some on-line vendors of foreign candy (a search for just "american candy" will bring up a pile) and noting what's sold in only a few flavours should point them out -- I'm looking at one right now wondering what on earth 'Tic Tacs Bold Fruit' are like (I am familiar with 'Tic Tacs,' but not in fruit flavours beyond the orange-coloured orange).

I don't know the name of the one that is considered the best brand because I live in Europe, but if I had one American candy/chocolate, I wouldn't even ask of anyone to try it...
I would swallow it myself!!! (cause I've heard that the American ones are the most delicious!)
