My opinion in general. It's good for someone that knows nothing about working out and is just getting into it. And it'll only be helpful for maybe a year. I have not ever been to Curves, but have heard about it from several people. Their program is low impact and not vigorous at all. Theyre main goal seems to be to keep you motivated to come back because they DO encourage you a lot. If you have a lot of self-motivation, join a regular gym though and you will see a lot more results. Curves seems to ease you into working out and getting you comfortable with it, which is why I would suggest not joining for more than a year.

I tried Curves several years ago and didn't like it. It was cool at first, but I got bored and I also hit a plateau and couldn't loose any weight. I like the fact that you can work out for 30 minutes, but after a month or two, you'll get tired of the same routine over and over and over again. I would rather save my money and take up jogging, speed walking or buy some video tapes that you can watch at home and do them at your convenience. If you need the "gym" environment, then join a regular gym. I love the ones that are open 24 hours. I go to Gold's Gym and love that about them. Also, if you don't like exercising around "guys", you might want to check if they have a Lucille Roberts in your area. It's an all women gym. I also had a membership there once and loved it. Good luck!

I LOVE CURVES!!!
There's several here in my hometown and I have really enjoyed the experience. At one Curves there's even a little old lady of about 90 years who participates in the exercises. Then on the opposite end is a young basketball player from the local college. I think Curves can work for anyone who really wants to exercise and make a difference in their health.

It cost me 29 dollars a month. It wasn't worth it. Unless you are older and have trouble moving around I wouldn't recommend it. Once the first few months go by the workout isn't challenging anymore and you'll plateau. You'll stop going and you'll be stuck in a contract for another 9-10 months. I go to a gym called Ladies Workout Express, they have a system to prevent plateaus from happening. I would see if there is one of those in the area.

It's good, but I felt really self conscious about behind in such close quarters with other women working out. Especially if you are like me and had to huff and puff. I also found it a little on the expensive side.

I've never been there, but they often offer 1 week trial programs. Also, they are Christian themed, so if you have conflicting religious beliefs I would just try a regular gym.
