I was going to ask why Christians are so threatened by atheists, but someone already did that, and the respones were either attacking or pseudo-casual, like "you don't threaten me, you're just wrong," or, worse still, "I'll pray for you!" (Please don't bother!).

I have RARELY seen atheists want much more than to be LEFT ALONE by religious types, yet as far as I can see, Christians ARE threatened and can't stop preaching and claiming they KNOW for a fact that they're right (using their own arguments as "proof"...a clear tautology, in logical terms)! The existence of a god or gods cannot be proven any more than the NON-existence of the same.

Maybe this is why atheists lose their cool and lash back. So, why can't Christians just leave us alone?! Why do you feel so compelled to convert others, including Muslims, Jews and others?

aisha - regarding my "answering my own question" about atheists lashing back, I mean that they WOULDN'T (most likely) if Christians just left them alone, so I came HERE, to the "Religion" section, to ask (so many of) them why the REFUSE to leave atheists alone! Duh!

jamie l.: You say you're an "atheist Christian"...Whaaah?! I think I'll save that for another question, unless you want to explain!

Re: all this talk by others that atheists attack, I don't know ANY who go around trying to "convert" Christians or other theists to atheism, nor any who attack, except to defend themselves against attacks FROM Christians, and, as someone else pointed out, other religious believers. I think the idea of "rabid", marauding atheists is so bizarre, it's ALMOST laughable!

I can understand why you ask your question, it is a question of simple respect. There are some atheists that do attach as you put it Christians and there are Christians that attack Atheists. Wrong on both sides. Many Atheists are happy and content to leave alone and be left alone. Nothing wrong with that.

I am a faith full believer in Jesus Christ, simply put. I believe that I model my life after the things that he taught. I do tell others about my faith (key) if they are willing to hear. Otherwise I just live by faith and let my actions speak about the things I truly believe.

I don't believe in pushing on some one something that they are not willing or open to hear. It is a waste of both our time and only drives a wage between friends. I understand why may Atheists don't believe and really it comes down to Christians who claim the faith yet never live the faith. That even I find hard to believe.

Why do feel compelled to show others, First you would have to understand the things that I understand, without that there is not real way to tell you. The things of faith are not seen by the eyes or felt by the touch. They are things of the spirit and that may not make a lot of since to you. The only way that I could they to explain ti would be like, you getting on a train that I saw where the bridge was out 5 miles up the road and knew that everyone on that train would die in the crash. Yet no one believed that there was a train wreck to come.

Too simple and yet how else could someone ever try to believe when it requires faith first. Anyway I won't push on you what you don't want but I will always extend the hand of friendship no matter what you believe.

I am a protestant and although I can't say I have ever tried to convert anyone, nor cared what religion they are; I think I can explain where they are coming from. Christians who have a strong faith do completely believe in the bible and it's preachings (and perhaps that they have been touched by god in some metaphysical way), this can make it hard for them not to understand why someone does not believe the same as them. They would also believe that if you do not have faith in Jesus, you will not go to Heaven; this provides an opportunity for the selfless act of saving your soul (as far as they know anyways). I think that this is why some Christians try to convert you, but keep in mind that Mormons, Jehovah's witnesses, and all people that are religious "die-hards" do the same to atheists and people of different faiths.

The same reason why atheists get all uptight when Christians say they are going to hell. No one wants their beliefs to be ridiculed. Christians are called brainwashed, stupid, ignorant, hypocrites. I am a fairly educated person, and I know a lot of educated people that believe in God. I have read the bible, and have done my research, not only in my religion, but in others as well, and history. If atheists want to be left alone, why come to the religious board to mock other peoples beliefs. I can respect coming here to say that you don't think religion should affect our Government.
Atheists claim that one can not prove God exists; this is true that he cant be called on the phone, and he cant be measured, or biopsied, but those who do believe have proof. Not in our own imaginations, but because so many things happened, that science can not explain.
Christians, we are to spread the word, but we aren't supposed to force people to change, that's why America is here. We are to love and respect everyone. If someone doesn't want to hear about it, respect them, and move on. Anyway, have a nice day.

That's so weird u ask that question as i have often thought that question!

I myself am an atheist christian and i believe this historical misconception that atheist are in fact devil shaggers is probably not true.

The likely hood of someone indulging in sexual intercourse with the Antichrist is slim to none.

Mark once said in verse 1a, the devil is a virgin!

But that was over 2000 years ago so chances are that someone down there's gone downstairs on Satan........ 6669 perhaps?

I've just finished reading the sequel to the bible....

"the bible returns"

It's a bit slow at first but it soon picks up, apparently there are plans in motion to make another... "The bible strikes back".

We can only hope and pray that Wes craven makes the film adaptation as he has with all the others.

It also goes on to reveal the true identity of god himself, lord is actually here on earth and is everywhere, just like the sequels to "god returns" have testified.

There is a code that reveals what form god has taken.

However my feeble frontal lobe has not evolved enough to disect such a complew da vinci coded labrynth of a riddle.

The riddle is as follows: GOD spelt backwards!

I guess we'll never know!

If atheists really want us to leave them alone, why are they constantly asking us degrading questions that plainly show their contempt for our beliefs? Their contempt for us is also shown in many answers they give attacking our intelligence. Atheists clearly think they are academically superior to Christians. What right does anyone have to attack someone else on the simple basis that they choose to think differently? We aren't threatened by atheists and we don't "attack " them because they don't believe God exists. We defend our beliefs when they are questioned, because we have the same rights as atheists to choose to believe what we want. That doesn't make us less intelligent. We all need to learn to be tolerant of other's beliefs instead of constantly ridiculing each other. There is no point in belittling those who don't share the same thoughts on certain subjects.Intelligence is not the issue here.Tolerance is.

I think any person who is insecure in what they believe will lash out when someone confronts their belief system. That goes for any subject on either side of that subject, whether is is Christianity, the perfect golf swing, or how to pick the perfect melon. I am a Christian but I don't need anyone to believe in God for me to believe in Him. You must make your own decision in your life and I am not responsible for that, so why should I be hostile? If someone challenges my faith, it typically strengthens it because it causes me to research further.

Some Christians feel threatened by an atheist because he suggests that the comforting father figure they revere is an illusion. Imagine if you were told that the person you relied upon most in the world wasn't real. It would probably shock you and make you feel like you wanted to stop the person who had told you this.

Other Christians who have a stronger belief want you to believe because they care about you and want you to share in the joy.

Hmm, you've given me an idea for a question. Thanks.

in accordance to Christian dogma you unfastened salvation via now no longer believing that Jesus Christ is your inner maximum savior. the only approach to heaven is thru Christ. that's not what i think yet that's what the church believes, and the constructs of what guy has built around Christianity as a faith. So, the qualification for leaving "Christianity" could be turning your lower back on Christ. that's a blanket assertion, nonetheless, with the aid of certainty that diverse sects of Christianity think in specific skills equivalent to: works, acts, sacraments, and a great style of others. you're appropriate nonetheless what's faith and thought to a million character could be an fullyyt specific subject to a distinctive. there is not any effective Christian ruler to place down what makes you a Christian and what does not. The Bible is open to interpretation, and for this reason its as much as its readers to come again to a decision the type you attain salvation. isn't existence greater with reference to the type you reside it besides? in accordance to a pair which you would be waiting to be an evil individual your complete existence, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that once you're making an apology and get carry of Christ on your death mattress and actual mean it salvation could be granted to you. does no longer you rather stay a superb and complete existence and be "incorrect" yet understand you a minimum of did what you deemed as precise in preference to living in subject of eternal damnation?
