Get the help of the UN. The UN has had many ideas for Iraq but our US government wanted to go it alone and we did. Now we are not only stuck with the mess we have paid out BILLIONS for the war.
When does it stop?
Maybe we should secure their borders to keep the terrorists out so they can rebuild their governement and cites and infastructure. We can commit to one year and then they are on their own. If they know we will not continue to throw money at their cause and that we expect them to work out their own problems and rebuilding effort they will work much faster. As it is now they dont really care the US will pay pay pay (with military and money).
Put it back on their shoulders to get the job done.

Leaving the situation for the Iraqis to resolve on their own. Fact that many say they had it better under Sadam is a sad state of what the U.S. is offering them. Plus it just might help the people of Iraq to view the U.S. differently and not as the evil Satan.

Hang in there, this is going to take some time. Things can't be stabilized over night. You have different tribes that hate each other, you have Sunni and Shiites that don't get along, it's complex. If you are asking tactically, you better call West Point, or the pentagon. We don't need any more arm chair generals.

Not much. The Iraqi people must want freedom and must be willing to fight for it. They must stage their own Revolution against Islamic extremism and must also be willing to die for it. They must seize the opportunity and unite. If not, the effort will fail and womens rights and other freedoms will have slipped from their grasp. Iraq must be the first domino to fall if the Middle East is to adopt any form of democratic rule.
Unfortunately, the outlook does not appear promising.

I think that the effort to secure the country could be stepped up a bit, but look what has happened in the last few years: Women get to go to work again, movies, tv, and radio are no longer banned, children can play in their yards, technology is growing leaps and bounds.
Good things are happening but that is not being reported in the Liberal Right wing media.
