When I was a kid I was TERRIFIED of and HATED clowns. I can't explain it but they freaked me out. I also read Calvin and Hobbes a lot and Calvin always had a fear of monsters under his bed, a common fear for kids with highly active imaginations. I also watched creepy kids shows and Unsolved Mysteries and this didn't help because it put scary thoughts into my head and gave me nightmares. Of course I've outgrown all that but was wondering what scary things you used to conjure up as a child.

When I was younger, I had a Pee Wee Herman doll (I am ashamed to admit it but it is true). Well, one day my brother had me watch Puppetmaster and I don't know it just freaked me out. After watching that movie, I noticed how freaky the doll looked and would make my parents remove it when I went to bed. I found out later on that I wasn't the only one who was scared of it bc my now ex-husband's lil brother was also scared of the doll too. Although I also found out that this kid had a nightmare about meatballs and was actually scared of them too...lol...I am sure that other's were frightened by Pee Wee Herman whether it be the doll or the guy himself but man if you ever saw that doll (its the one that talks)...that thing still freaks me out....lol

I can't really remember anything for myself ... but my daughter has some very strange fears ... she's 4 now .. I'd say a few months ago she finally got over the fear of PLASTIC POPPING PAPER ... it was the funniest thing ... every time she would hear one of the bubbles pop she would freak out and start crying .. all you had to do was show her popping paper and she would run as fast as she could from you ... lol ... most kids have a blast running around popping all the bubbles .. nope not my daughter ... I'm sure glad she finally got over that fear .. especially with Christmas coming up and all ... haha ... !

Ok I thought of one for myself ... when I was younger my grandma use to take me shopping all the time in the malls ... well the one thing I use to hate was the escalators .. I always thought they were going to suck me under and cut me up .. I use to dream about not jumping off in time and one toe at a time would get sucked under ... I still kinda do a little jump off the escalators to this day just out of habit ... lol ... !

Yeah, sorta'... I had this nightmare for like 20 years that a dark man type thing was dragging me off my bed to my death & I couldn't scream or move... but at the last second, before I fell off the end of the bed, I'd snap awake... Finally I decided to conciously (yet unconciously) confront the dream & it ended up where the thing grabbed my ankle & I let it drag me away & nothing happened... I didn't die. I just kept on sleepin' until I woke up in the morning... now I only have the dream if there is a lot of stress in my life.

LOL
I loved to watch perfectly frighning things but the things I was mortified about were seemingly harmless like Snuggle Bear, Clowns I know why I hate, John Wayne Gacy...
My worst fear when I was a child was aliens. I was convinced they were out to get me and would never be anywhere alone because I was afraid of getting ubducted.

I was absolutely convinced that there was "something" in my room that would eat me if any part of my body slipped over the edge of the bed - I never let my feet dangle over the edge, or even a hand. To this day I sleep all curled up in a little ball! I watched horror movies a lot too, probably not a great idea in hindsight, but I loved them!

I used to think there was a skeleton under my bed. If I had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I would leap way out into the middle of the room and then make a running start back into my bed. I also used to get creeped out by the Oompa Loompa's on Willie Wonka.

I had this terrible habit of watching the moving night shadows coming in from my window and truly believing that there was a snake trying to get in!
Also...we had a mirror in our hallway and one night I had to go to the bathroom. Well... someone had left the shades opened on our huge sliding glass doors which caused night shadows to appear inside the full length mirror on the wall.
I actually thought (still do to this day) that I saw a very much alive and moving "willowy" evil looking ashen colored angel with long flowing hair trying to beckon me with her piercing black eyes and crooked moving pointer finger to come closer!!!
Needless to say, my heart froze still for what seemed like an eternity. When I finally did gain my composure I high tailed it to my parents room to sleep on their floor for the rest of the evening. I never told anyone about that in my family...I was ten years old and I probably would have been made fun of. I lost sleep for many nights after that...and made ABSOLUTELY no trips to the bathroom ever after that experience.

Flashback... under the bed terrified me!! I still remember the one nightmare that I had(after staying up and watching "Chiller Theater"). All of these hands started coming out from under the bed while I was sleeping, and began to try to grab me and pull me apart! The only time I ever screamed myself awake, and my
dad came to save the day. I was 4.

Always hated to read (still do) but KNEW there was SOMETHING under my bed and if I'd hang a hand or arm over the edge I would be pulled under. Only stopped this fear about two years ago.

Didn't need monsters under the bed or in the closet. I was the youngest of six boys, my fears were not silly. They were as real the nose on your face. Older children think it's fun to terrorize younger children.
