As long as it's fairly easy to straighten your hair, you can go the cheaper root with this.
I purchased a ceramix iron (ceramic is so much easier than any other, you get shine and it glides better) it cost me $35 canadian on sale, or around $55 regular price.
good luck!

This is one area where you 'get what you pay for'. The Chi iron is by far the best flat iron on the market. There are many differences in flat irons, particularly with the ceramic irons. Besides temperature, which you will only get the higher temps with professional irons, there is the composition of the ceramic pads, whether they are ceramic coated or solid ceramic. The cheaper irons are ceramic coated which wears off and snags and breaks the hair, you want solid ceramic pads. Then there is the heating units, whether there is one or two. The cheaper irons only have one, so are heating the hair on one side only, causing it to cool faster, therefore take longer to straighten your hair and the result isn't great. They also break faster. You can spend $20 on an iron but you will spend a lot more time on your hair, the result won't be as good, and you'll end up buying five of them in the amount of time a good iron would last! The Chi iron goes for $100.

I have to disagree with the " You get what you pay for" angle. My friends are hairdressers and buy expensive straighteners for their salons of course , so I took some advice and forked over the cash. Sure these straighteners worked great for a while but quickly broke when overheated. I have a drawer full of 80 dollar plus straightening tools and products. I switched to store bought tools and Drugstore John Frieda style product and have not had a problem since. The wet to dry straighteners work the best for me and hold with the aid of straightening products. Just remember to condition and protect your hair during the process.

Go to Bed Bath and beyond, Look for the Maxi Glide It is the best. It steams out your hair while it flattens so that it will work better. It's about 20-30 dollars
