sure you can. no serious bodybuilder would use a cross bow but if you are looking to bulk up and tone up they will definitely do the job.
for 99% of the population its good enough.

A bow flex would work fine. In fact, all you need is some sort of resistance. Dead weights provide this just the same as any other heavy object.

Bow flex is good if you are a beginner or intermediate lifter. But few serious bodybuilders use bowflex alone to train. Plus with all that money you could buy a squat rack, bench, and free weights that will give you much more results.

Free weights are proven. I haven't met people who got huge with bowflex, it may work. But, I've definitely seen people get big with free weights.
