There is free money out there but it takes a bit of work through filling out applications for them. It takes writing a good proofread essay or an interview to catch their attention. In addition, it takes a good eye for detail when it comes to knowing the organization that you are applying for the scholarship, too. Unfortunately, there is a lot of competition for scholarships, so the tips I gave are very helpful in winning one.

First, apply at FAFSA.ed.gov because it will help you tap into federal and college based need based financial aid. It can include both grants and loans.

Second, search your state government's website for college grants. Every state has them.

Third, search Google.com and Yahoo.com for your college major, ethnicity, and religion with the word scholarship. Sometimes, there are scholarships tied to these qualities.

Fourth, your college's financial aid website and sometimes your major lists private scholarships from organizations and companies.

Finally, apply to several free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis.

Unless the loan is a personal loan and not a student loan, most times you do not have to start repaying the loan until you 6 months after you have graduated from college.

Good luck!

What I am doing now is working at the university I attend. It's a real, full time job, not a work-study job. Most colleges and universities allow their employees to take classes for free or at a greatly reduced cost. True, I am only able to take classes part time, so it will take me a bit longer, but in the end I'll have gotten a masters degree for free, so it's worth it in my opinion.

There are always Scholarships and Bursaries to apply for...if you have good grades and qualify for whatever requirements each Bursary asks for, you may get some money that way. But besides that, there is no way to get FREE money for school...unless you have a rich relative who'll pay for it for you.

look into grants (never pay back) scholarships, and financial aid.... there is a bunch of free money out there, you just have to know where to look.... ask a councelor to help, or a financial aid rep..... i did not need loans until my last 1and1/2 of school... i am only 20,000 in debt! yeah!

If you live in Georgia, you can apply for the Hope Scholarship. I'm sure your state has scholarship funding as well.

Did you do the FAFSA? Or apply for scholarships or grants? They are good ways to get "free" money for college.
