Its all about the diversity of genetic code. Its actually kind complicated I've read some books about it though, but I can't remember the names. Maybe you should do a google search.

Not all Christians believe that the story in Genesis about the creation of the world and about Adam and Eve is meant to be taken as literal history. I am a Christian and I believe that the early chapters of Genesis are not science; rather, they have certain more spiritual lessons to teach us: 1) everything that exists was created by God, 2) the creation was good, 3) things have gone wrong as a result of sin, etc. There is a difference, I believe, being something being "true" and something being "historical".

I am listing as a source a web page referencing one person's more metaphoric interpretation of the Adam and Eve story.

Because early in human history, our genetic structure was far closer to perfect. As the years have gone by, the imperfections have grown worse and worse. Remember, back then people lived for hundreds of years. Thus, there were far fewer genetic mutations to pass on during the days of Adam and Eve all the way up through the days of Noah.

Since Adam and Eve were the first, they had purer DNA than we now have. There wasn't a problem with inbreeding for a while. But at some point there were enough people on the planet that you didn't have to marry your sibling or your niece/nephew. My guess is that somewhere around there DNA started to get muddled and they began to see the hazards of marrying your brother or sister.

Adam and Eve lived for about 900 years. They had many children (more people equals a more diverse genetic code) but their descendents were eventually wiped out except for Noah and his family. We are all the descendents of Noah, Noah and family were last remaining descendents of Adam and Eve. So we have what is called the bottle effect during the flood that wiped out the entire population except for Noah and family and the animals.

BOTTLE EFFECT....

Adam, Eve, and many, many children

{FLOOD}
{Only Noah and family}
{left}

Noah and family had many descedents= US!

It's inbreeding, not imbreeding. Also, we do have a problem with it. The reason we didn't back then was because it was the only option.

Wrong wording. We are all descendants of Noah, his three sons and their respective wives. There is no problem with inbreeding. The closest relative would have been a cousin.
