We have a 5 year old Pomeranian that was given to us by a friend. The thing is he will not go in the little floor protection pads that you get from the store. We take him out in the morning and throught the day and he goes sometimes outside but a few minutes later he does his thing inside the house but not on the floor pad. What is the best way to train him to use the floor pad?

There is no reason adult dogs can't use pee pads. When it is time for him to eliminate, place him in a small confined area with a pee pad. Watch him (but move away if your presence is distracting him) so that you can reward him with praise and treats when he eliminates. If he doesn't eliminate after about five minutes, remove him from the area but watch him like a hawk. Take him back to the pad when you see signs that he is about to relieve himself.

You may be able to attract him to the pad by using one to clean up when he has an accident; his smell will be there to "remind" him of what to do.

Floor pads should really only be used for pups. Buy some urine gone and shampoo the rugs and continue to send him outside. Install a doggie door if your yard is fenced. This is the easiest way to train it to go outside. He keeps going in the house because his smell is there and dogs like to go in the same place over and over.

I have a pomerian and she was easy to train. Poms are very smart and intelligent. Get a boot mat from the store and put newspaper on the boot mat showing that you want the dog to go on the mat. Then when you leave take and put them in a room and don't let them have the run of the house while your gone. Next show the dog the back door. I showed my the back door when she came and I told foxie to bark for me if she had to go pottie. I only told her once and from that day she barks for me to let me know that she needs to go out. Just keep showing the dog so they know what to do and after a few times that dog will catch on.
