Are there any Christians (particularly Baptist) out there who have ever been saved by Jesus Christ and experienced all He had to offer and then changed your mind and decided it wasn't what you wanted?
I don't mean you just went to church I mean you truly believed and got saved.

For those of you wondering... I am a Christian and most certainly not changing my mind. People say we are fake but how can that be if we don't change our minds. Once we know we know.
Black Parade Billie. Your answer broke my heart. I will pray for your renewed faith if that is ok with you.

I've backslidden away from the Lord before and I found that I can't live without him. Everyone else will fail us at one time or another--Jesus will never leave us or forsake us. The Bible talks about walking away from the Lord and returning to sin is like a dog returning to his own vomit and eating it. I certainly made some wrong choices in my life and walked the fence for a long time--but as I cried out for help--Jesus once again picked me up and loved me right where I was. There is nothing that this world can offer you that can satisfy your soul like Jesus can.

Me.

I could go on and on, but you'll believe I'm sincere or you won't.

I was raised in a christian home. Went to bible (baptist)summer camps and eventually was a counsellor. It was a great thrill for me to lead people to the lord (3 souls!). I was on the bible quiz team and memorized several books of the bible when in high school. After high school I backslid and went to a "secular" college but over the summer had a recommitment to Christ and decided He wanted me to go to a Baptist Bible college.

I went to one for just over a year. I was excited to get to "the meat of the word." The thrill of translating the koine greek of the NT, etc. In Hermenuetics class, while translating a section of I John, I ran into a wall. The "small logical hole" in english became a gaping monster hole in greek. This led to more questions. The harder I dug in the word, the more holes I found.

Desperate to hold onto my faith, I decided that *thinking* was bad. I would shut myself in a closet for 45 minutes to an hour every night - just to pray. To humble myself before him and WILL myself to have enough faith.

That didn't work. After about 3 years, and via some conversations on the internet - I discovered I had no faith at all. I was...an atheist.

And I should add that...I'm at peace with that and very happy.

p.s. ACK! I read your response. Don't have a broken heart! I'm a very happy little atheist! The hard part was when I was in turmoil back then. Once I stopped tormenting myself with believing what I couldn't believe, then I was ok. Thank you for your kind response tho :)

I am married to a Baptist turned Jehovah's Witness and I was once a Methodist and am now a Jehovah's Witness. In our congregation we also have an ex-Baptist minister. We are all quite happy with our new faith and would not go back to the things we once believed. We have come to know Jehovah God and Jesus Christ on a much more personal level.

I wasn't baptists but a hard-core fundementalist non the less. I was always enamored with the Roman Empire, one fact lead to another, lead to discovering that Christanity is a religion that composites Zoroastianism and the worship of Osiris into one, while the history of the Jews is nothing more then what they would have liked to have happened but never substansiated.
It was hard to swallow, there was a period of depression, mourning, and confusion. But I persitantly searched for the truth in history and devoted my life to the study of history.
Now I am a history teacher who will soon recieve a doctorial degree and will be able to tell the truth once again only this time I have evidence.

Since the Bible is the Word of God then everything in it is true according to my belief. My God does not let others talk for Him or Author a book full of half truths and contradictions. The Bible helped to change me from a Sinner to a Born Again Christian. Hope that helps. My sources can explain more
