A few friends and I are heading out to Chicago at the end of this month. One of us is a vegitarine, two of us love our red meats, and another is more along the lines of furit and chicken. Odd combo I know. We are looking for something that is a little more upsale, $$$. Great atmostphere, dont need a reservation, but also dont want to wait in line for hours. Any ideas?!

If you're going to be in town on a weekend I would suggest reservations, restaurants fill up quickly and if you don't have a reservation the wait can be quite long. Depending on what area of the city you're going to be in or near there are a plethora of amazing restaurants to eat at.

Topobolompo is fantastic, you would all have some sort of option there since you all have different eating habits. They are also really good about substituting if you don't like or are allergic to something in a dish.

Mia Francesca is a great neighborhood Italian place with a good wine list, not super pricey but a very hot spot to go. www.francescarestaurants.com

Nine would be at the other end of the scale, very pricey fantastic steaks and seafood. I've been there with a vegetarian and she had no trouble finding something to eat. www.n9ne.com

You can also check out the website www.opentable.com for some suggestions as well as www.citysearch.com or www.metromix.com

Hope this is helpful...have fun it's a great city!

Frontera Grill would be my suggestion. It has a flair of Mexican cuisine to it, but has consistently been a top restaurant in town, on the more upscale side. It should have the food variety that you are seeking. Plus, it's nicely situated right in the Near North section of town - accessible to most everything.

Great Answer there from Michelle. I agree. I live in Houston and have visited Chicago 3 times for vacation. (I keep going back for the Cubs, Shopping and Pizza). I loved Gino's Pizza. I even had them make one for me and not cook it, then I took it on the plane home. I also really loved Ditka's. I hope it's still there. It was very nice and a litte fancy like you may be looking for. As a previous answer I also enjoyed Harry Cary's (sp?) As a footnote: As soon as the Cubs start playing again, it's the Nacho's at Wrigley.

Opera! It is a somewhat upscale Asian-fusion restaurant on Printer's Row. It will have something for all of you: They have a separate vegan menu, but they also have chicken dishes and my friends swear by the beef and broccoli. It also has a very cool vibe.

Check out the Signature Room, located inside the John Hancock building. You may want to call first though and find out if it is by reservation only and/or find out what a slow night may be, so that you avoid a long wait.

Tillie's in Lincoln Park. Great atmosphere, plenty of menu options. Great prices and don't need a reservation. I'm telling you...you can't go wrong.
