Let nature take it's course, but if you must:
Hold your nose and GENTLY but frequently force air from your lungs up for a second or two at a time. Do this a dozen times and wait 10 minutes, then go at it again.
Placing a hot, damp cloth in the bottom of a glass and holding it firmly over the ear provides relief by warming the tubes, and is especially good for flight descent, if done during the last 10 minutes or so.
CAUTION: Putting any other fluids or wax in your ear will complicate things, unless done by a health professional, and putting too much force on your ear drums by trying to force air too strongly can cause inner ear damage to begin!

Try the popping maneuvers mentioned above (mouth and nose stuff) If that doesn't fix your problem it may be from too much wax in the ear or water. Try the following 1) You may still have water in there from showering or bathing. You can usually get it to drain by doing the old swimmer head smack maneuver. 2) Use an ear candle, you can usually pick these up at health food stores. Contrary to what some one wrote, they are not bad for your ears. Just make sure to read the directions and don't be an idiot. 3) if it still doesn't help go see the doc. It may be a jaw problem or a middle ear infection.

Alll the above answers sound great. If none of them work for you, try going to a natural remedy store and look for Ear Cones. They are typically beesewax candles which you can use in your ear. You'll be amazed at how much wax comes out!

owwww! i have that problem too, mostly while flying or even going over small hills! this restricts me from diving, because it stuffs up my ears. but enough about me, im here to help u, right? ok, here are some ways to pop your ears.
1.) Yawning is the easiest way to adjust your ears on board. You can also simply harden the back of your tongue. When I was a flight attendant, I got in the habit of adjusting my ears by hardening the back of my tongue because no one could see me do this.
2.) Another way to adjust your ears is to hold your nostrils and very gently blow out while keeping your mouth shut. Careful! If you blow too hard you can damage your ears.
now i'm not really a flight attendant, or anything, but i got this off of the source listed below.

Go to your Dr. It is only a 5 minute procedure using a really big 'syringe' which they squirt hot water out of. And it is a really strange but pleasant sensation when you can hear better than you could in a long time. You may have only just noticed it, but it has been building for a while, and you would be amazed at how much 'stuff' can come out when they flush it.

The Problem Is Wax Built-Up.Go see you Doctor, he'll fill a very big seringe with some hot water, then he'll aim it straight into your hear to remove all that wax built-up, then he'll prescribed you an medical Hear Drops to put in 3 to 4 time a day for 7 days.
TAKE CARE OF IT...

Open your mouth very wide, which opens your eustachian tubes at the back of your throat. Blow your nose with your mouth wide open like this. It will change the pressure in your ears and any water there will come out.

If it is just air pressure and not something actually in there like water or wax (or a bug), then these are the things I do an an airplane to clear my ears...
1) Chew gum. (Don't use gum that is too soft, though)
2) Poke your lower jaw as far forward as you can.
then, holding your jaw forward in this position, slowly open your mouth.
3) Hold your nose and your mouth closed, then try to blow air out.
(But don't let the air get out).
4) Hold your nose and your mouth closed, then try to suck air in.
(But don't let the air get in)
Two other things to try...
A) Get a package of animal baloons, like clowns use to make animals and flowers and things. Blow it up with your mouth.
(Or at least try to really hard!)
B) Go to a Burger Joint that sells REALLY THICK milkshakes.
(Around here, that would be like a Wendy's Frosty)
Try to suck the milkshake out through a straw.
