Well, for one thing I certainly would not be running him much at all if you are concerned about joint problems.

I had a Neoplolitan Mastiff in my puppy class, and he had joint problems, so it is good you are being careful. Feeding the wrong food can also contribute so I hope the breeder told you what to feed.

As far as chewing rugs, just crate him when you are not able to watch him.

(1) DO NOT MAKE HIM RUN

If he wants to run and play, fine but don't make him.

(2) His leg are not going to cross and twist out of shape

Why you are careful about what he does is to protect the HIPS and ELBOWS

These breeds are prone to hip and elbow dysplaisia.

It is the hip and elbow joints that can be easily damaged. and made worse if he inherited dysplasia from his parents

(3) Go get some 2 sided carpet tape and tape the throw rugs down around the edges.

(4) Puppies chew. Get him real beef leg bones - boil them - give to puppy.

(5) Get a crate so he can be in it when home alone

You should be feeding a large breed puppy food and one that has condroition and gulcosamine in it if not give it as a suppliment.
No running on pavement only on grass. Pavement is hard and will cause to much concussion o nthe growing joints. Running is not a great thing for Neos anyway. Most are not that high engery.
The chewing will get better as he gets older. Get chew toys and supervise him if loose in the house.
Do not let him sleep on hard surfaces. Get a pad or dog bed or something for him to sleep on. Be prepared to replace it a few times before he outgrows the puppy chewing stage.
Provide chew toys and as he gets older he will learn to chew on the toys and not everything else in the house.
Neos are great dogs and wonderful companions.

well they do sell dog treats that help with a dogs joints, we use it for my 11 year old lab. It helps them with the joint problems. As for the destruction maybe he just needs some toys and something to play with. Dogs who usually destroy just need something to do. Neapolitan Mastiffs usually have high energy levels, so you just might need to exercise and play with him more.

To provent the destruction of things, make sure you give your puppy plenty of toys and bones to chew on. If he has his toys, he will be to busy with them to tear up the rugs. You just have to keep at it. If you see him chewing, reprimand him and tell him NO. When he is chewing on his toys or bones, tell him GOOD BOY. You enforce positive behaviour. Make sure you get him a good bed to sleep on. They have plenty to choose from, but to save you money, go ahead and get one that will be appropriate for his adult size. Good Luck.
